Tallest Mountain on Kerbin

Nah, that's not how it really works. In fact, smaller bodies tend to have more drastic surface features. For instance, the tallest mountain on Earth is Mauna Kea in Hawaii (Everest is the tallest peak as seen from mean sea level, but Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain from base to top), with a total size of 10.1km. Earth is the Solar system's largest rocky planet. Yet, there are 10 mountains in the solar system taller than that, the tallest being the Rheasilvia central peak on Vesta with over 22km.

Aah, but those bodies have lower surface gravity than Earth, so mountains can get higher. Bodies with higher gravity tend not to form such large mountains. Kerbin has the same surface gravity as Earth, despite being so much smaller. It's probably a planetary crust that accumulated on the surface of a neutron star or such. So one wouldn't expect Kerbin's mountains to be any larger than Earth's.

Mt. Kraken sounds like a name well befitting the peak's majesty and aweworthiness. However, I believe it would be worth considering naming the peak after the person to post video evidence of themselves getting a kerbal to the top using the most entertaining/creative method and thereafter planting their flag at the peak. We could post a thread with video replies and a voting poll and leave it open for a few weeks to determine what the community thought was the most entertaing/creative method.

Mt. Kraken is a good name for the highest mountain, but when I was planting flags to act as outer markers for KSC runway approach, I found I needed to place a flag on top of the mountain peak overlooking the KSC.

Remembering that they just changed Denali's US Congress name from Mt. McKinley back to Denali, I decided to call it.....Kerbali.

There was a whole challenge to get up too the mountain.

People have been up it years before this thread was made.

I finally got up it 2 months ago.

Oh, also, I would enjoy if it was called Mt. Kerman.

It's a fitting name (Thanks whoever came up with it!)

wow, completely forgot about this post, honestly i think Mt. kerman is more fitting, ill change the title of the thread to be less "forcing Kraken down the throat"

also whats the green loopy arrow next to the title?

Well, if thats the case, then Moho shouldn't be called moho, it should be called the 1st planet... Eve the 2nd planet... and so on.

We have names for stuff outside Kerbin. We have names for Kerbin, why shouldn't we have names for features of Kerbin?

clearly Squad has not come around yet to give Features on other planets names. maybe dont even want to.

The names on the planets/Biomes are just a Skeleton where every Player uses a certain foundation, so instead having People talking about "that Brown planet closest to that too small Center Star" you hear People simply talking about "Moho".

If you want to climb the tallest mountain to plant your flag there, you dont end up with the feeling that someone has already been there because it already has a Name.

No, the one west of KSC is Mt. Whoopstooshort, as established here.

Nope, that's been reclaimed by the Kalaskan delegation to Kerbali, from the Kohioans who want the name of President Whoopstooshort remembered as a big unclimbable spike.

Uhh, im seeing some weird characters on the OP...

Also, I thought that it had been named K2?

The forum move broke character encodings on old posts. Those weird characters used to be degree marks, accented characters and many other meaningful things. Some people have gone back to fix their posts in active threads, but that is up to the individual.

The only places with official names on Kerbin are Kerbin itself, the KSC and the facilities there, and some hidden stuff. Mountaintops certainly are unnamed, and thus will cause endless discussion between people who have different ideas about how to name them. I am actually a little surprised that the KSP community has as much consensus on the names as it does. Even those who disagree just do so calmly and let others use whatever names they like. That is a rare thing in the Internet today.

"Keverest" is the name I've always heard in the past.

As far as height goes, well in general crustal thickness depends on surface gravity, and not directly on planetary radius. So Keverest is about what you'd expect, if anything Kerbin has a bit less topography than you'd expect looking at the real solar system.
