Heh,

Um...

A light drifts across the sky,

A single, lonely star drifting amongst a sea of black and white specks.

Aimlessly circling the sky,

Day after day.

Year after year.

Hour after hour.

It always returns to drift across the sky,

Always rising in the west, setting in the east, only to return shortly later to repeat the process.

Like a ship amidst a dark sea.

Like a shooting star refusing to fall.

It just drifted,

I would watch it as it floated across the night sky each night.

And then, one day, it fell.

I was watching it drift across the sky one night, and it sudenly slowed.

It grew bigger, and bigger.

Until it grew into a red fireball, streaking across the sky.

It burned up as it went, never reaching the ground.

And the star never returned.

The next day, I went out in a nearby field, and found the burnt remains of a metal sphere, looking like it'd been in a super volcano, the only remains of my star.

May be a bit too obvious... But it's all I can think of.
