KSC Speedbumps

Recommended Posts

I have a continuing problem while trying to visit the closest monolith, just north of KSC. I wanted to go and visit it by rover. I've tried a few times with more than one rover, but everytime, there seems to be a bump that miraculosly flips and destroys the rover. It's almost like a huge wall or speed-bump. Does this happen to anyone else? Is it just a bug? I've tried going slow, fast, and even trying to go around it by going by the beach, but all have ended in failure. Any help is appreciated.:)

I've never uploaded an image, but i'll try. You could probably find it without an image. It's about halfway between the runway and the monolith just north of KSC, and my rovers seem to hit a bump, if they survive one, sure again, there comes another?

I had this occasionally at low terrain settings. When it happens, I get it all the time when driving across terrain edges regardless how sharp the edge. Made exploring the Mun a nightmare passing across ridges and bumps. I had to have a big torque wheel module on my tiny rover standing by on action group so I could instantly arrest the rover's attitude when it flipped.

Regarding your speedbump, see images:

This is about 1000 m northerly from the launchpad's center. At Terrain setting "Low", a gap in the ground can be observed.

Once you have managed to cross it (bumpy physics), you will keep walking half sunken into the ground. Don't even ask what it does to a rover's wheels.

At Default and High Terrain setting, the problem is not present.

This thread would perhaps best be moved to the BUGS section.

I'm currently having the same issue. No physics warp whatsoever, its literally just as Mr.Rocket describes, for some reason it just suddenly flips with considerable force, almost like the terrain altitude is slightly different at the edge of the KSC zone. So far I've encountered this issue approaching KSC's Northern and Western edges. Using Rovemax M1 wheels within their described limits. Even if you can fly over it, the game is in Alpha and solving these bugs makes for a better end product. Best guess is its not user error, probably a glitch (might only occur while using the Rovemax M1's? will test further...).

I've encountered this too. i don't remember what my terrain settings were on. i've switched between high and low so many times (just messing with settings to see different effects). but yes. the first time i found it one of my kerbals died right beside the monument. but after a second attempt and going really really slow i got close enough to plant a flag. i've found it other places on kerbin too. haven't really noticed it on other bodies. except the sink holes. the wheels/legs just disappear below the ground and attempting to move causes explosion. lol it seems anywhere the terrain has a seam in it causes crazy things to happen with rover wheels.
