Co-22

Recommended Posts

It may be a bit late but I've finally overcome my laziness and have almost finished the Co-22. Performance is similar to the Co-21 though plenty of improvements have been made.

At almost 200 tons I doubt I can class it as a corvette anymore as it is more of a fully fledged battleship, capable of going toe to toe with even the best current competition. It is armed with 9 hornet missiles and a magazine fed kinetic cannon which can punch through moderately armoured targets. Its own armour is MK-4 which gives it a good chance against even SRB warheads!

4 crew can be supported with the well armoured hitchhiker which is also the safest place to gather in the event of a crash.

The Co-22 can also land on low gravity worlds with its rear mounted landing gear which is quite unique for a ship of its sheer size and weight.

Part Count: 454

Cost: 260,000 Kerbits

Mass: 200 tons

TWR: 1.08 (Full)

dV: 4825m/s

Out of curiosity can you explain the various armour grades? What is the difference between Mk. 4 and Mk. 3? Just wondering, because I have no idea haha.

Mk-I is simply structural panels placed directly on top of the fuel tank.

Mk-II is the panels separated from the tank by something such as a cubic octagonal strut. This helps shock absorption.

Mk-III is the ship being built around a central spine with the armour being attached to that rather than to the tanks. This was a major leap as an impact has to travel though the whole spine to damage the tanks.

MK-IV is the fuel tanks separated from the spine in addition to the armour.

As you can see my armouring technique revolves around making the shock of the impact having to get through as many structure pieces as possible before getting to anything vital, allowing it to spread out and dissipate. If someone invents MK-V that will be interesting though. :)

Any chance at a download? I just wanted to see the armoring method in action. You can PM it to me if you don't want to make it public :)

Do You think my UNSC Paris Class frigate would count? Most vital components are made as spread out and sturdy as possible along with dual plated armor.

I made a ship that is right under the 1100 part mark. It is currently weapons free but has the room for at least 8 anti capital ship missiles inside a pair of reinforced missile magazines next to the MAC cannon which will be added in the future. The main super structure is made of a large number of independently reinforced dual plated armor sections along with a central truss spine reinforced with two independent truss spines. Engine and fuel tank are both in a reinforced cage armor section with a separate spaced dual plated armor section to protect it from missiles and other such objects that could threaten the ship in general. Reactor is 32 independent reactors mixed with 32 independent large batteries. The ship itself is made more spaced out and from multiple independent sections to minimize the spread of damage. Range must be improved at only 800 to 1000 m/s of delta V but has a huge number of torque generators. Improved edition could exceed 2000 m/s of delta V in the future versions of the heavy frigate.

Or this ship. It is huge.

The UNSC Pillar of Autumn is under development. UNSC Halcyon class.

I actually don't have this particular one anymore. :( My PC struggled too much with it. I have the Co-21 which is very similar but with MK-III armour and the Gn-22 which is smaller and has MK-IV if they would be useful. :P

I'm not sure but most likely. :) I havn't tried dual plated personally so I don't know where it stands. If the fuel tanks are kept away from being in contact with the armour then it is probably at least Mk-III

I can't try out your ships as my PC would explode!!! :o
