Well.....

There is the Gnat, ion-powered plane.

Then there is this thing, a big-ol' space truck.

And my favorite... the Breakbird, which crumples on command to air-drop a rover.

You can see the Gnat and the space truck in action in my All Kerb'd Up videos, there is a link to the latest one in my sig.

My most insane/extreme aircraft was designed to fly in the most difficult flying environment there is: Duna.

Behold, the mighty D'OH (Duna Observation Hybrid). It had a kethane generator in the rear fuselage to provide electricity when the solar panels weren't up to the job of running the Firespitter props, hence the "hybrid" part of the name. With its massive wing area, it was able to fly at 35m/s at 2500m (on Duna) and thus land safely in the very bumpy dune fields that average that altitude over most of the planet's surface.

But the huge amount of lift demanded by the thin Duna air made the D'OH incapable of launching on a rocket, so the only course was to build an even bigger SABRE-powered ascent stage onto the back and fly it off the runway. Then, once it got into orbit, dock a nuke-powered transfer tug on the behind.

But it was able to achieve 6300m once and maintain a bit over 6000m on Duna, while providing the 2 Kerbals perched on the nose an unobstructed view.

It had the legs to circumnavigate Duna without refueling and visited both the Face and the Buried Rover in the same trip. It was heading for the Pyramid when the Supernova of '22 wiped it out :(

So I told you guys I'd update my post with my BSG Galactica replica, and I totally forgot about it. Anyway, here's a prototype I've been working on. The project is unfortunately on hold atm due to school and my other hobbies.

The plan is to create three separate crafts that I'd launch with a heavy lifter, and then assemble it in orbit. There might be a part count problem though. I'm suspecting it will come up to about 2000 parts...

Inspired by Virgin Galatic's White Knight, it carries 3 kerbal pilots. The drop ship in the middle is carried to about 20km and 1500m/s before dropping free and continuing to burn to orbit. Both it and the mothership can fly completely normally, and return to land safely. The mothership drops the orbital craft then immediatly returns home. The orbital craft can make orbit, but needs to refuel to do anything out of the ordinary. I've taken it to the Mun and Minmus and back safely to KSP. Flies like a dream...
