Post the number of asteroid you're tracking - is there a limit?

I'm currently tracking 111, nice round number. I didn't try very hard to track all those, just set the tracking station to only show unknowns, then watched videos until some would show up, and started tracking each one. Didn't really take that long either, so I'm guessing other people are probably tracking a lot more. Is there a limit? Any slow downs when the number of tracked asteroids gets up to the thousands?

Zero, because every time I track one 10 more seem to show up. Tracking them just seems to turn the system into a minefield. I like that they are there and that I can put them in orbit, but they also make it pretty hard to find Kerbin underneath all those bazillion rocks

Pretty sure you can hide them in the map and tracking station.

Three. The three that were passing closest to Kerbin when I first checked. All the rest I detracked.

And I haven't had any new unknowns spawn in a little while. How often should they come?

It depends. You can watch the debug log window (alt-F12) and messages will pop up when a chance for asteroids to be created happens. Sometimes the RNG doesn't make any. The default chance is 50% according to the logs.

Two. Generally I ignore most asteroids, only tracking them for about five seconds so I can see if they're going to smack into Kerbin and then abandoning them if not. One of the two is such an impactor, and the other one I'm tracking because it's predicted to capture itself and give me a free moon.

OK, I figured there'd be people with a thousand or more. Really, if you right click the unknown object button, it will only show unknowns, then click each one and track it. Watch it for half an hour in another window while doing other things or watching youtube and you'll see a few show up every few minutes. But, mostly, I have them turned off in tracking view, and the few that are close the Kerbin or on intercept show up automatically when you are at the right zoom level.

Tracked a few more last night, probably up to 120 or so at this point.

The next question is, if you aren't tracking it, and it's on an intercept course, does it still crash into Kerbin? Kind of like the tree falling in the forest riddle. I'd like to know if anyone was just minding their own business in the game, wandering around the surface and has seen one crash land without having tracked it or even known about it. Is the game coded to be that specific?

I only track class-Es and the ones that will hit Kerbin. So not that many.

I'm with this guy. So far: one.

And because the others still "exist" but aren't being tracked, new ones aren't being generated to replace them so the number currently detected is holding steady.

I'll probably recheck every few months of game time.
