regex's I'm not developing here anymore thread

When I look at, for instance Minmus, in map view, it looks the way I'd expect. In the normal screen view, from orbital height the planet looks practically flat - there seems to be a huge amount of flattening.

Download and install the latest version of RSS. Then download and install the latest version of 6.4:1 Kerbin. Ensure that you overwrite when installing the config. The latest config comes with a bunch of OBJ files that need to overwrite the ones that come with RSS proper.

Note that orbital parameters have changed in the latest 6.4:1 Kerbin; Kerbol now has the mass and radius of a K-class main sequence star. This differs from the earlier G-class main sequence it used, so craft that are in solar SOI should be brought into a planetary SOI before updating IF you originally had a 6.4:1 Kerbin version earlier than v4.

Thanks Regex. I had the latest 6.4:1 Kerbin, but had an older version of RSS, updating it and reinstalling your mod seems to have fixed the discontinuity between the two views, Minmus is flattish still, but at least in both views, and frankly this is a much more realistic, if less challenging moon to explore now. Now I only have to figure out why Kerbin has a cloud layer about 2150km above the surface in map view... but that will be something in EVE. After work I'll try it without overhaul 9 since I believe that's an RSS fix dev bld so likely the problem.

The latest EVE Overhaul should work, I was using it the other day.

Man, I must have gremlins. I figured maybe there's who knows what going on in my RSS 64 version of KSP, so I downloaded a whole new vanilla KSP from Steam. I then downloaded the following files and put them in, in this order...

RealSolarSystem v6.2

6.4Kerbin v5

Overhaul-9-2

As far as I know those are the latest and greatest of each, although with updates sometimes being buried inside the threads I suppose I could have missed something. I've got no other mods in there at all, here's my game data folder;

Directory of E:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Kerbal Space Program\GameData

25/06/2014 07:34 PM <DIR> .

25/06/2014 07:34 PM <DIR> ..

25/06/2014 06:20 PM <DIR> Squad

04/03/2014 11:54 PM 687 toolbar-settings.dat

... and I still have the scaled space cloud layer looking like it's sized for an Earth-sized Kerbin and not a 64% of Earth-sized one...

Try setting "wrap = false" at the top of the RealSolarSystem.cfg file (or vice-versa, can't remember what it's set to...) You can also set "wrap = <inverse>" for Kerbin alone, which is probably a better idea.

I wasn't sure where to put "Wrap = Inverse" in the Kerbin settings part of the config but "Wrap = false" seems to have fixed it. I've only checked Kerbin so far, I'll have to hyperedit a probe out to check the other planets with atmospheres as it's early in the campaign. Thanks for the help.

+1 rep, should be more. Great mod

That's not a bug, that's a future feature. "Gas Giant Cloud Layers". Keep up the great work regex!

I'm stilö considering switching to 6.4:1 Kerbin because I really wanted to for a while now. It would be perfect still Kerbol System but not too easy. But I guess I need a new config for Better Atmospheres first because the slightly increased sizes would definetely make problems there :D

You would also need an updated EVE to go along with it. rbray is still working on RSS support AFAIK.

I can confirm that. You have to download a dev version called Overhaul 9 (maybe higher if he's released a newer one recently) to get one that works with RSS. And if you have reeeeaaallly high clouds, sized for a 10x bigger Kerbin rather than the 6.4x bigger, see Regex's fix about 6 posts back. :)

Also, I don't believe the addon packs for EVE are necessarily compatible with EVE Overhaul so try it vanilla first.

Sweet!!! Lovin' this setup Regex! Its like I've started playing Kerbal anew. The hard mode mod keeps me honest (and the 6-4-1 setup works really well in 64-bit mode). Now I have to launch a few test rockets to make sure the launch system works before I put a Kerbal in it. Thanks again.

Hey, no problem, glad everyone's enjoying the various mods!

Development is on hold for the moment for a few reasons: Spintires, a KSP mission I want to turn into a Youtube video, and what looks like a stock alert/messaging system to arrive in 0.24, which will make the campaign system easier to write. I have the config files laid out for it, though, and it should fall into place fairly rapidly when I start.

Has anyone made an accurate map for 6.4:1 Kerbin/Realsized Kerbin? (Both Kerbins have similar land deformations, and both are closer to each other than the stock terrain) The map transition at 80-100 km is really bugging me.

Also, don't bother using Visual Enhancements on 6.4:1 Kerbin or RSS, because it Destroys the terrain shaders and makes the atmopshere look like crap. I know it's WIP, but there's a major problem. Why bother making something compatible with RSS if it just makes it look worse than it already does?

Do you even latest config, bro?

Seriously, the size of the latest config download is because I package the scaledspace meshes with it, just like RSS proper does. I have seen nothing like what you are describing (map transistion) using the latest config. Does this happen with EVE installed or something?

Gregroxmun: You keep saying that, crapping on rbray's thread and now here. It keeps not being true. Sounds like it's installed wrong or something. The terrain shaders in EVE are (a) better but (B)can be turned off anyway.

I installed the very latest release, but the transition problem is because the texture of the map and the PQS terrain do not match up. I guess I'll redownload and try again.

What do you mean by "crapping"? I love these mods. This is a genuine question, and I suppose it's entirely possible that I end up sounding more angry than I do in real life. After all, text doesn't convey tone or emotion nearly as well as real life.

EDIT: Turns out my only problem with EVE is that I'm confusing version numbers. Everything works and looks fine now.

My home laptop is having some issues; I think Windows is revolting because Dell has refused to provide updated drivers for the Radeon, getting blue screens on driver load. Unfortunately I can't use reference drivers because it's a switching Intel GMA/Radeon platform so I'm pretty much stuck with what I have. On the plus side, my work laptop is far more beefy except for the Intel 4600, so I might give that a try.

If everything works out, I'll check the config and see if there's anything I can do to help. Turns out that coastlines don't look entirely right at around the 100km boundary. Might have something to do with copypasta from RSS proper.

Hey, quick question.

In 6.4:1 Kerbin, if I'm using the stockalike realfuels pack, should I skip realism overhaul?

6.4:1 Kerbin is simply a config for Real Solar System, it's entirely up to you how you use it. I will never make an attempt to standardize engine configs and mods for this particular config because it's a lot of work that I don't want to do.

However, I personally play this config with Real Fuels + custom engine configs, FAR, DREC, AJE, and a raft of other utility and parts mods, but I don't use the ROV resize scripts. That's really the whole point of 6.4:1 Kerbin: stock parts (and most, if not all, parts mods) are scaled down to 64% of size, so they actually match the solar system (that's also why Realism Overhaul scales its parts up!)

Thanks, I'll try it without the resize. Though, correct me if I'm wrong/confused here, but doesn't 6.4:1 upscale the system by 6.4%?

Don't worry, I'm not asking you to standardize, just looking for advice (:

Just as a note, if you keep masses stock and also sizes stock, command pods will be far denser than they are in real life. Now, since reentries are not so deadly in 6.4x Kerbin, that's OK more or less; just be aware.

It's stock * 6.4. KSP stock is somewhere around 1/10th or 1/11th scale based on Earth to Kerbin sizes (assuming Kerbin has the same real-size density as Earth), so Kerbin is about 60% the size of Earth in this config.
