Sleeping pills: Nitrazepam

Recommended Posts

It is basically a benzodiazepine. I hate those things and use them very, very rarely. 2-3 times a year, at most, and i take the minimal dose that would get the job done. They ARE addictive and they do mess up your cognitive functions to a certain extent. I just love my brain too much to use them as much as i should. OTOH, they have a nice effect of making people not give a frack. Search wiki for benzos, and it should scare you enough to actually follow doctor's advice and use them only when there is no other option.

Perhaps, but yesterday I took one at 22:30 because I felt that I had trouble sleeping because I slept during the day between 12:00 and 15:00.

I took one and I slept like a little a baby :D

The problems will begin when you can't sleep at all without taking them. So please be carefull with them. I know someone who had really great troubles in her life when she got addicted to this stuff.

That there is doing it right - If you seem to have not slept right to the extent you need a 3-hour nap, then some extra sleep is in order, and a pill to help you catch up will not be too bad - if this only happens once in a while!

Sleep is something that can reflect too much stress in your life too, amongst lots and lots of other things, and you may find that once you are through whatever is affecting your sleep you may not need to take the pills as much :) except maybe once in a very long time if you lose sleep for any reason...

No offence. But that's pretty much why you can't sleep at night. Napping during the day and taking pills at night will only mess up your natural rhythm even more. You can't sleep so you pop a pill. You still won't sleep properly and need a nap during the day. As a result you're not tired at night and can't sleep: another pill. See where I am going with this?

Whatever you do, no matter how tired you are don't nap during the day. Stay active. Early evening go easy on the coffee and other 'stimulants'. Last few hours before bed no coffee, no cigarettes or adrenaline inducing activities. (Heavy sports, horror movies, etc.)

Make your bed with fresh clean sheets and TURN OFF the heat (your bedroom should be a bit on the cold side). A scolding hot shower and straight to bed! I know it's cliché but hot milk right before bed does actually help.

Well i have always problem with sleep, recently i don't sleep well, because I had to give my professor first chapter of my thesis, and in the coming week will begin examination session, fortunately soon start to holiday, and I spent the whole day at the city pool or water park, although the latter is a little expensive :(

But for that I will be able to spend the whole day in the KSP, or Total War Rome 2 :D

Actually the best way to get rid of such sleeping habit and set myself back on the track is by "skipping night" if you cannot fell asleep and don't sleep (coffee is your friend) during the day at any cost... then go to sleep at proper time. Sometimes I take Melatonin pill (natural sleep hormone, usually used to fight insomnia episodes and jet-lag, handle with caution) to fell asleep after such day.

Also I assume that you don't work, running around city or operate vehicles during the time of day you would sleep otherwise, sleep deprivation can be more dangerous than being drunk.

If you really had to sleep and you are sure that you will woke up (or had somebody to help), take only a ~30-40minute power nap (even 20, if you can fall asleep nearly instantly), no more.

Also one nap during day can cut your total sleep needs by nearly 1-2 hours if you disciplined to keep proper nap time.

I've found that avoiding looking at a screen (monitor, TV, phone) for the hour or so before going to sleep helps fight off insomnia.

yep, and making sure that your room isn't too hot... I have found out again recently how bad that one can be!!

Another tip:

Make sure all light sources are turned OFF atleast an hour before you sleep.

So no computer, no TV, and minimal lamps.

Light is keeping you awake. Your body will only make sleep hormones in the dark

Somehow for me that works in an opposite way, can't sleep without reading something on my ipad.
