So ever since google cardboard came out i've been looking for a worthy head display to play with until Oculus Rift comes out.

Last night i found this which should work with my E980 after some modifications to the mounting area for the phone.

At last here is the video in oculus rift format that will work with the above item.

I will report once i receive it and take a look at the video.

Cheers

Oculus Rift ? No thanks. Mr. Zuckerberg can keep this piece of hardware to himself.

I feel pity for all the backers who helped to realize it only for oculus rift to be sold to a company which could have funded it by itself.

Brave new world.

Didn't see it on Oculus, still interesting.

Thats the point of it, once its been recorded in side by side 3d format you can watch it with any headset you want.

Dont get me wrong i was completely against this too however i looked at the big picture. A year ago there wasnt a single video available in side by side 3d format. There were no programs available to convert video into that format, there was nothing at all, much less games.

The oculus has solved many problems that have haunted VR since it first came out 20 years ago and with the extra funding from FB that technology will only improve. This means that even if you go with morpheus or whatever else comes out, oculus rift is the one that help make it the better product. Truth is backers think that oculus rift owes them something like a piece of the cut, nope not at all. When you back up a kick starter you're donating into a technology and hope it works. This deal with FB ensures that the product will actually go somewhere instead of die off like it did in the 80s.

That's the reason i never will back anything. At least nothing where the voice of the backers will not count anything. Developing the tech is one thing, selling it then to the wrong person because of greed is another.

If Oculus had announced already at the beginning that they will sell the company to some other company nobody would have backed them and that is also the truth.

I dont see it being sold to the wrong person because of greed. Just the opposite. Truth is oculus rift offered Dev kit 1, then offered dev kit 2. The sales simply werent there for it to keep developing. Because of them selling to Facebook they now have the funding they need to put out a polished product instead of an unfinished one.

Well then just find out who got the $2 billions and then you know who is the greedy one.

Oculus could have sustained itself also without the sell to FB, they had already sold a decent number of kits before they sold the company to FB.

The could have lived very well without FB.

THe point of this wasnt who made oculus rift or whatever the case is, the point of this thread was the video that you can watch with a 8 bucks device assuming you have a cellphone that can run youtube.

As long as the device just works and have great performance per price ratio I don't care who make it, either FB, Sony, or some random Chinese company

Project Morpheus should end up being more advanced and would provide a more believable experience

Actually Oculus is way ahead. Oculus Rift "crystal cove" finally solved the tearing issue you get by turning your head. Morpheus still suffers from it, also Sony does not plan to make it support computers so playing KSP on it is most likely not going to happen.

There is also the Totem VR project going on, and it will actually have cameras on the front of it so if need be you can see your keyboard/drink/anything else on your desk. I will probably get it instead for this reason.

So today i received the blue tingamabob that i linked in the first post. Got a chance to see the video in 3d. Definitely pretty cool. Wish i had a better holder though since this one you have to hold like a pair of binoculars and it kills your nose. Still good enough.
