How to complete stranded kerbal mission? ( .24)

So I heard about the update and loaded up my career mode save (much <3 btw). I was having fun with the crazy ships I'm having to build to complete contracts.... until Lulong Kerman is stuck in orbit and needs a rescue.

I built the best space plane I could afford. I launch. I get within a few meters of him. I go back to mission control and try to take control of Lulong so I can have him board the ship. Mission control tells me I don't own that, so I can't control it. Alright, so maybe this is like a docking thing and I have to hold the cockpit on him for a couple seconds... still no.

How do I get the little bugger to board the ship?

Using the switch vessel keys ([ and ] on most keyboards) when within 2.5km should do the trick. You should then be able to control the kerbal and fly him toward the hatch using the EVA pack as usual.
