Switching vessels in atmosphere

I have recently watched video on YouTube about KSP anti-aircraft missile. I just want to know how do you switch vessels in atmosphere.

You can't switch vessels in atmosphere as far as I know.

That because it needs a stable flight path but due to air drag the flight path changes. You can, though, switch between vessels that are in a range of 2.5km (or less) because they are loaded into the physics engine. There are also restrictions if you have e.g. a Kerbal holding on to your ship. The keyboard keys for that differ and you can look them up in the controls configuration accessible vis the main menu.

I took off with a plane, then I tried to switch to missile (distance: 1.8 km) on the launch pad and the message popped out.
