basic construction question

this might be a stupid question, but i can't figure out how to attach the last part of a chassis in VAB. i want the piece to be attached to 3 other pieces to complete the outer structure.

a square for example.. how to attach the upper part to the left and right parts simultaneously?

Short answer: you can't.

Long answer: KSP doesn't support multiple connection points. You can fake the connection with struts, but it will not connect.
