Interplanetary SSTO cargo delivery planes

Recommended Posts

Every payload i used in a video should be in that zip folder.

Some are separate (which were loaded manually), some come along attached inside the ship that carried it.

The tiny payload was just something I quickly slapped together... check the craft called "Astroliner XI (1)", it's in there.

Older crafts are in the folders ("0.24.2", "0.23.5"). The planes are outdated, but the payloads should work fine, except ones that had a brown SAS module which got smaller in 0.25.

You can just grab the payload and save as a sub-assembly.

Thanks for the feedback DMSP.

Glad it helped! I never noticed the payloads! I have the crafts now, thanks! You are epic at designing.

overfloater do you only work with stock your planes are great but the part count is pretty insane on some of them.

if you play with at least one mod i would suggest KAS you can build alot more interesting rovers

thats my ssto for duna xfer i havent tested the xfer part but it has a large fuel capacity so im sure i can make it (i built this one for use with far). the rovers are a crane for base building a fuel xfer rover and a science scout.

some other mods that might be helpful are near future solar/electrical, scan sat and remote tech for challenge, also modular rocket system might have some useful adapters for balancing parts/engine configurations such as the first pic i have a 5 engine mount 4 sabers and 1 nuke per wing otherwise you wind up having to radially attach them which adds more parts and is harder to balance, like the last pic

I've been wanting to make a B-9 plane, was a bit put off by all the memory issue complaints...

I might add FAR to that (still in the process of figuring it out xD), because in stock-aero all my planes rely on the wing spamming cargo bay. And I think 2.5m wide FtMN atomic rockets would fit there nicely.

Modular Rocket System has many useful parts too.

I might give all this a shot, but still no promises... Lately i've been having very little free time and i'm already in the middle of another long mission :P

Your rover designs look very good, and that plane is pretty close to what I have in mind right now... x-b

the 1st & 3rd pictures though... is that the same craft? I can't see where the big SABRE engine fits in the 1st pic o .O

How do you turn on the RCS systems for the Astroliner XI? I tried the seemingly obvious RCS button, but it didn't work.

Edit: Nevermind, fixed the problem. Awesome planes btw.

Ooooh, what is the mission?

Also, you are very good at making modular mobile bases!

I think that more people would love it if you made a separate thread with just bases, no planes!

I would go nuts.

Thanks, DMSP

Just sent a Mega Comet to Laythe again! Then my game bugged, I reloaded a quick save, but that quick save had been 3 years earlier. I deleted the save through rage... I'm starting again on Laythe.

Please consider my base idea, it would make many "Basers" happy!

But my bases are made specifically for cargo descent-planes, almost no one flies these! My base modules would be pretty useless. Besides, Rune has made just that (base kit! :D) :>

Well, I could modify some to be rocket launched. Could you make a bunch and then I'll modify them. Please make more!

This is what I'm talking about, pure creation, the less mods the more free the design. I feel so average just looking at these mammoths, bet it took you weeks if not months to design these babies, you should go into engineering if you haven't already.

Aww no more 1.0 cargo sstos :( these planes were some of my favourite

I'm taking a crack at it.

This behemoth got into orbit carrying an ISRU, but not much else (Delta v of 400 remaining). Plan is to get to a planet, land, mine, and take off again when refueled, but will need more engines before that happens.

That looks very cool! So am i

When it's finished it should be able to take 45 tons to orbit and land again.

Nice. What kind of motors are you using?

Sixteen whiplashes and a mainsail. I dont have much patience so i overdid it with the thrust. That's pretty good that you got a plane of that size to orbit with only 12 rapiers and 4 nervs :)

It seems patience is not a virtue with the new thrust system. I went up to 16 whiplashes, a mammoth, and a nerva on my last mod, and i'm getting double the ISP at orbit. Its really not apparent how much juice those engines use at peak, and wonder why drop tanks arent a more common thing

Having a bit of a difficult time bringing a usable ÃŽâ€v to orbit. Modifications to the test vehicle (different engine combinations, most successful so far is 16 whiplash, 1 mammoth, and a nerva stuck in the center of the mammoth via black magic) have given a max ÃŽâ€v of around 900, using a staggering 4000 units of fuel in the process

Bw7sLW7.png

This is the prototype design. Later designs have graduated to 16 side-mount engines and conventional engine mountings aft. However, a test vehicle (unmanned) revealed this particular spacecraft with rudders breaks up at altitude, so this vessel i hastily launched earlier with a crew, no rudders, and no airbraking seems to have a rather dim future.

This aircraft, known as the Stellar mk.1, is a probe launching SSTO. Its powered by 6 rapiers and 2 wheezleys (for more efficient landings/electricity). An attempt was made to put a permanently mounted ISRU, 2 drills, a battery, and a medium 2.5m fuel tank into the hold to turn it into a long range aircraft. However, the payload likes to explode for yet unknown (kraken) reasons, causing the wings to part ways with the fuselage. I unfortunately did not capture an image of this as i was busy trying to comprehend what was happening.

The stretched version of the Stellar, the mk.2, may be used for future testing, including more engines. Its currently used to transport and has a good record of not exploding, though is slightly underpowered from using the same powerplant as mk1.

Will keep posted. Tomorrow may be quiet, as i will be out of town for a while.

VVery nice! How much payload can it get to orbit?
