I just finished watching Steins Gate and I need a new anime to watch. It should be a short one(under 100 episodes) because I'm currently not in the mood for a long anime. I have already watched the following:

- Steins Gate

- Naruto

- Fairy tail

- Death Note

- Btooom!

- Soul Eater

- Sword art online

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll go with. Neon Genesis Evangelion because I've already heard multiple times that it's supposed to be really good.

And I have already watched Attack on Titan, just forgot to mention it.

Evangelion is very good, but don't expect to understand what's going on until after it's all done. Just roll with it.

Don't recommend Deep Otaku Animes such as GainaX's works, you dumb fools. They're mere time killers, and merely reintroduce old concepts to the newer generation, generating stagnation. Recommend more "interesting" ones.

Knights of Sidonia

Especially given the theme of these forums. It's a fairly realistic space themed anime. The Heigus particle engines do seem to violate basic physics but that's ok. (mostly identical mecha can link up to increase delta-V and thrust...)

Basic premise is a thousand year old seed ship fleeing the remains of an Earth destroyed by the Gauna who continue to pose a threat to humanity. No other human ships have been seen in years. Humans have been genetically re-engineered to require less food and water but acceleration couch technology has apparently been lost forcing them to rely on flimsy belts and railings... and dont even get me started on the catheters.

Space suits are pretty obviously re-used hand me downs and every thing in general has a very worn and old feel overlayed on top of the shiny technology.

Don't get too attached to anyone, especially The [REDACTED].

Cool opening theme too....

If you have Netflix, that's your best bet. Otherwise there's the obvious alternatives.

It's been almost 20 years since I first saw it and it's still the best story driven anime I have ever seen.

Some people don't like it because it dwells a lot into the human psyche towards the end.

The animation is starting to show its age, but I still prefer it over the new movie remakes, as the original TV version spends a lot more time with the characters in their daily lives. I feel this helps the viewers to become more involved with the characters and they care more about what happens to them.

The new movies are good, but I recommend watching those afterwards.

Sorry, to revive this thread ... I'm always on the lookout for good anime, so thanks. I found some interesting stuff here.

On the other hand i'd like to add

* SentÃ…Â YÃ…Âsei Yukikaze http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sent%C5%8D_Y%C5%8Dsei_Yukikaze

Has awesome air combat scenes. Forget Gundam and all that other stuff ...

* Cyber City Oedo 808 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyber_City_Oedo_808

Great cyber punk. The english version has an amazingly good sound track

* Patlabor. I watch this currently. It is a funny parody of mecha anime and could become easily one of my favorite. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patlabor

* Vampire Hunter D (1985), and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (2000). They are movies and not exactly sci-fi. But still really good.

Seeing the list you might like: "Another" and also this one "Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou" wish is a real refreshing, inspired, and shifted OVNI (UFO).

Some of my personal favorites:

1. Psycho-pass

2. Monogatari series - in order of releasing:

(one of the wittiest anime in existence, but requires a lot of attention and pausing, if you want to understand all the nitty-gritty details)

3. Code Geass

4. Macross series (if you can get over the singing part, which isn't to say it's bad, just not for everyone), it's an amazing longstanding mecha series. I have to admit I have seen only the newer ones, not the ones from the 80s. Also, you gotta love it for the Aimo song alone :)

5. Ghost in the shell - again, requires quite a lot of attention if you want to get the philosophical and ethical problems, to the point of not being relaxing to watch.

6. Appleseed - it's more of 3 movies, not so much as short episodes.

7. Vexille

8. Attack on Titan (guess everyone knows that one, but still worth mentioning)

9. Full Metal Panic

10. Darker than black

11. Eureka 7 (if you can get over the kiddo protagonists)

12. Broken Blade - 5 long movie style episodes, one of the best drawn animes in existence, winner of multiple animation awards

13. Infinite Stratos - more of a shounen anime, but hey, still fun to watch

14. AKIRA... AKIRA AKIRA AKIRA, nothing else to say here. A must watch for every anime fan, just like any BMW fan has to own an E30 at some point in his life

15. Gundam, but if you want to learn more about it, it will be much longer than 100 episodes.

16. Bounen no Xamdou - bio-mecha anime, not bad

17. Jin-roh: The Wolf Brigade - a dark and very cool movie about a special forces operative who meets a terrorist girl

18. Fate/Stay Night - nice series, I think it had 3 seasons and a few movie spinoffs. They all take place in the same setting, however the time is different. You can skip the latest Illiya one, it's more of a comedy spinoff and not in the general anime tone.

19. Maoyuu Maou Yuusha - some ligther stuff

20. Elfen Lied - the classics in the "ecchi" genre ;)

21. Mirai Nikki

22. Mardock Scramble - the first two movies are subbed on Nyaa.eu, but the third one is still in the works I think

23. Shingetsutan Tsukihime - also a classic

24. Oda Nobuna no Yabou - Nobunaga as a girl. The stereotypical shonen anime.

25. Robotics;Notes - same setting as Steins;Gate

26. Nazo no Kanojo X - another one of those strange japanese ideas

27. Zetsuen no Tempest: Civilization Blaster - one of the cooler psychological animes of the past years.

28. Chuunibyou demo Koi ga ....ai! - all the seasons are fun and easy to watch.

Well, that's off the top of my head.

Technically not an anime, but...

1. The Legend of Korra (Season 3 was amazing.)

2. Avatar: The Last Airbender (Everyone I know still likes it.)

Then, if you're feeling futuristic...

1. Ghost in the Shell: SAC

2. Ghost in the Shell: 2nd Gig
