Cannot manually edit settings.cfg

I'm trying to use my personal KSP settings from earlier versions in .25, but whenever the game starts it sees my settings.cfg and overrides it with it's own version. Even simply manually changing the resolution in notepad will result in the entire thing being replaced with the default settings. This basically locks me out from changing settings that are not included in the in-game menu, such as the water render distance (water+AMD card=terrible lag).

I am hearing rumblings that Windows DEP is causing more problems than usual. My first question is where do you have KSP installed? Places such as "Program Files," "Documents," and the desktop are typically bad locations. You'll want to try something along the lines of C:/Games/KSP

If it is a DEP issue, you'll need to Copy (not move or rename) the whole folder to a new folder. Windows knows if you're trying to trick it with a move/rename and might still be interfering. I'm not saying that is the cause, but if you had it installed to one of these places you have to go out of your way to get it away from Windows DEP.

Old settings.cfg files had to be deleted and replaced, it's best to make a new one instead of trying to force KSP to use an old one.

Thing is, I'm not trying to load an old setting file anymore. I'm just trying to add my own settings to the NEW one. Yet it still overrides it. Also, is there any actual difference in the settings file? Like a version number or something that I need to change?

I'll try Claw's solution when I get the chance.
