The Jupiter 4 Challenge

Recommended Posts

Pretty much the same as the Jool 5 challenge(http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/57197-The-Ultimate-Jool-5-Challenge-land-Kerbals-on-all-moons-and-return-in-one-big-mission), but this time with Realism overhaul. No im not insane(well problably i am since i havent even got into orbit yet). Whoever does this need to have a title KSP GOD, and money for cleaning the lake of molten plastic in his home since a build for this on 1 launch would problably have a few thousand parts. I'll still be working on this and will post my progress.

Alright, changing it a bit. actually alot. Land on as many moons as you can in one mission.

Rules:No cheating(alt+f12, hyperedit...)

Scoring:Unmanned landing on any of the moons - 5 pts

Manned landing on any of the moons - 15 pts

Returning kerbals after landing on a moon - 10 pts

Going to Jupiter and landing on a moon with a single craft(no docking etc.) - 30 pts

Landing on all 4 moons with 1 mission - 50 pts

Land on all 4 moons and returning kerbals to kerbin safely with 1 craft - 120 pts (hardcore)

EDIT: Docking is allowed if there is a separate lander from the command module(likea apollo)

Leaderboard:

1.metaphor - 190 pts

Here's my progress: Done the Lander and the Transition stage, though i will still have to design the unmanned landers. The launch stage is problably going to be 3-4 times bigger than this. http://imgur.com/vOjsJYT,CGdpTz2#0

Just updated the leaderboard. I wasnt though able to get that ~1500 ton thing into orbit and my ksp broke again.

Here's something I did a while ago, unmanned orbiters and landers on each of Jupiter's moons, with lots of gravity assists.

Simply Amazing!

Welcome to the Forum, Lichbane!

Nice first post, but a couple of things to point out... 1) you seem to be doing a lot of consecutive posts (as in, you are posting after your last post, where it is conventional to just edit the last post if no-one else has replied since you wrote it) and 2) you are a bit light on rules... as it stands, I could just turn on infinite fuel!

The forum can be a bit slow, as many of us are deep into playing the game, so don't worry much if you don't get the response you were expecting straight away

  • 4 weeks later...

Just need a cool shield now like for the Jool 5.

I think unfortunately it's a less interesting challenge than the Jool 5, just because the four Galilean moons are all pretty similar. There isn't the landing challenge of Tylo or the spaceplane opportunity of Laythe.

The Saturnian system might be more interesting if and when a mod can implement it fully. You've got Titan with its atmosphere, Iapetus has a fairly high inclination, Hyperion with its chaotic spin (unfortunately not possible in current KSP), and in general a wider spread of sizes than the Jovian system.
