Anyway to change the sensitivity of crashes/collisions?

Recommended Posts

Im having an issue where id stage boosters and the tip of the booster would give the central core tank a "love tap" , then exploding the entire ship. Realistically that would not happen in real life. Id like a way to tone it down a few notches and still allow me to have crashes turned on.

Use sepratrons to push your depleted boosters away faster, avoiding contact altogether. You could edit config files to increase impact tolerance, not sure what text, or what chunk of code, you'd search for though.

no, sometimes sepatrons are a no-no for aesthetic reasons, For example you cant put sepetrons on a Sozuz. It wasnt designed to use them. Also some craft desigs dont allow such chunky sepetrons to be installed. Id rather rely on the radial manifolds. I dont want to edit 900 parts either. THere should be a global config somewhere , just need the knowlegable person to find it for me :)

Actually, yes that absolutely WOULD happen in real life. Both the 'love tap' and the ensuing "rapid unplanned disassembly" (aka 'Gigantic Kaboom'). The only reason is DOESN'T happen (a minor but very important distinction) is because successful space programs expend a great deal of engineering brainpower and computing time to ensure it doesn't. Space Shuttles used Separatrons, essentially. Soyuz has a different method which I don't recall at the moment and am too lazy to go look up, but they do take active measures to make sure the strap-on boosters go 'out and away' rather than 'in and love tap'.
