Space Shuttle Atlantis:

STS-86

Visit to the Space Station Mir

I went to see the Space Shuttle with my dad in 1997. I believe it was STS 86. Im not sure. However I remember that the shuttle was Atlantis, I could and should google it before I post this but I am on my phone. So I am sure someone can fact check me. Anyway hands down one of the coolest things I have ever seen.

  • 2 months later...

That ain't easy... I haven't seen many, especially because I'm 16 and I'm from Europe, but still it's difficult to remember all of them.

For sure:

2013

- Landsat 8 (My first ever live launch!)

- LADEE

2014

At least five or six, but I have no idea which.

2015

- SpaceX CRS-5

- SMAP

- Vega IXV

- DSCOVR

- Eutelsat 115 West B/ABS-3A

- MMS

This year is my year, I can feel it! :D

Update with new launches I've seen (mainly for me):

- GPS 2F-9

- ISS 42S

- Galileo FOC-2

I have live next to Vandenberg AFB for the last 30 years, so I can't remember them all.

Well 40 miles away from it, but rockets are bright even in day light and leave long smoke trails.

I also grew up next to a Rocketdyne test facility. I know it's not the same thing, but listening to Shuttle engines so loud that they shake the picture frames out of alinement at home has a big impact on a little kid.

Ok I have seen a few:

The Proton Launch from today

ORB-3 (that was quite a shocker)

LADEE (saw with the naked eye from Pennsylvania)

the GSLV MK.3 test

a few F9 launches

the Orion test launch

STS-135

SMAP

the launch of ATV Georges Lemaitre

the launch of Swarm (I think that was on a Rockot)

some random Minotaur I launch (I think it was the record breaking one)

And a Zenit launch from the ocean

Also those of you who were alive during Apollo, I envy you

I saw all the manned launches from birth (mom was a space nut) until some point in the STS program. So Gemini IV to Challenger, then a bunch after that, but more spotty. A couple with my eyeballs, but those were just sounding rockets.

Orion EFT

MAVEN

These are the only two I've seen, but to be fair, I'm the only one in my family that cares for all that space stuff (17 YO btw)

I watched the rosseta landing if that counts (yes i know the lander wan't called rosseta, but i can't spell philleay or whatever it is)
