Are we to blame for this?

  1. 1. Did we cause Squad to rush the 1.0 release annoucement??

    • I was sick of long waits between releases and I'm glad 1.0 is on the horizon.
    • I wouldn't mind a few beta releases, without a hard date, before 1.0 is released.

I've read a few posts where people were claiming some forum members were sick of this game being in early access for so long, and wanted Squad to hurry up and release the final version already. I'm genuinely curious to find out how many people wanted the 1.0 release and couldn't wait for squad to finish their thing.

This is my first attempt at posting a poll. I apologize if it's not being done properly.

yeah there is no poll.

I guess in one hand im glad for 1.0. I've only been around since 0.18 or 0.19, but KSP is my favourite game of all time, and im glad to see it really come together.

On the other, even though Squad have said they will continute development and updates, i guess im a bit sad that the end is indeed in sight. The modding community is something else though, they really add to the game and will continue to do so i imagine.

1.0 is just 0.27. Nothing magic has happened, nor will happen.

There's no end in sight at this point (assuming they don't go bankrupt or something). It's all just #lolhype.

Thank goodness too. There's still a lot of work to be done.

Squad have advanced KSP to the point where it matches the vision they had for the game when they set out on the long road to develop it. The reason why Squad are using the 1.0 version number is because they are ready to begin evolving the game beyond their original vision. The 1.0 version of KSP is only the beginning.

Well I guess it's not working for you, because I don't see a poll. :)

Although I'd like to see at least one "bug fix" release before 1.0, I think the game is ready otherwise.

I took my sweet time in making sure I frame the question and options right. Should be up now!

Meh. It's all the same to me whether it's in beta or full release. I'm gonna play it regardless.

From Squad's perspective, I doubt it matters to them whether or not I want it in full release either. It's all about the market to them. They're the ones who have to judge whether it's ready or not.

I do wonder whether they can pull off a complete rebalance and major change to the physics and still get it right on the first try, but that's their headache.

Best,

Its more than that, they have to finish the solar system, make a slew of function fulfilling parts and then test it all before release.

And get the x64 version working without massive memory leaks.

And optimise it so a mid end machine can get >30 fps (Which currently is only achieveable, at lease on my old PC, on low settings)

And then revisit all the stuff the devs wanted to.

Unfortunatly. What it is called does matter. 1.0 will be the bar at which the game is judged and the press will likely be unkind if basics such as optimisation and x64 support are incomplete.

I really don't care what they label the game as... "Alpha", "Beta", "Release", whatever. I'll still play it.

I'd say they might be moving too fast, but in fact this is the only Beta I've played that's moved into Release, so I can't complain (except Minecraft I guess)

I didn't vote. My stance is too ambivalent for either poll option.

Sure, it would've been nice to see some more work done in Beta before the big 1.0 release, but I wasn't necesarily "sick" of long waits between updates- It's only a few weeks or months between releases. Honestly, that's something that always befuddled me- why aren't people satisfied with the release itself? I'm ecstatic every time there's an update, no matter how long I've been waiting.

Maybe I'm not reading this right, but that sounds a lot like the second opinion in the poll, no?

In a normal community (one with less intellectual value), the news of 1.0 would bring joyous cheers and 'omg yazz finarry 1.0 is b3ing reeleezed yaaay'. However, since this game requires some skill, the community in general is less stupider, and they would react different to such news. Rather than being excited for 1.0, they would question it and doubt everyone involved, and in general using what they believe is best for the game. I suppose SQUAD wasn't prepared for people who aren't mindless drones and don't always take every piece of content thrown their way? I do agree though, that there are some things still missing from the base game that should be in the final release.

I believe calling the next release 1.0 is a big mistake. Calling it 1.0 suggests the game is complete and people will expect it to be complete. We, the regular forum crowd, all know it is far from complete but most KSP-muggles do not. When I buy a new car I expect the paint to be dry, the reverse gear to work and the doors not to fall of while doing 130kph on the highway. The same goes for any kind of software be it a game or an operating system. I can accept a few bugs now and then but at least it should be finished. KSP as it stands now is far from finished.

I'd be content if the upcoming version were Release Candidate 1, but we're a bit away from 1.0 Gold. Not horrendously far, but not quite there yet.

But are we to "blame"? Blame for what? If you want to feel guilty, go yell at a puppy for being too cute.

I think it might be beneficial if the Devs provided a definition of what 1.0 is in relation to a full release. It could be that 1.0 is NOT the final release for initial market distribution.

I'm more confused than ever as to what the sequence is. Still, Fix the bugs regardless...
