ESA Ariane 5 Launcher Replica

Columbia

Recommended Posts

This rocket was one of the first replicas of a real-life rocket I built in KSP. It includes separating stock fairings, out of structural panels. I tried to make it as realistic as possible, But nonetheless could reach Kerbin Orbit and back. I am not sure how much payload it will tolerate, though.

The Ariane 5 is a launcher owned by the European Space Agency, and has been used to launch different probes and satellites, such as the Rosetta/Philae lander.

Steps:

1. Execute full throttle and ignite!

2. Once boosters are deprived, Stage to separate them.

3. Execute Gravity turn at 20,000 KM (Recommended)

3. With the main engine out, Stage again. The stage will separate along with the fairing, leaving you with the final stage and payload.

4. Stage and Ignite second stage.

5. (This assumes you reached Kerbin orbit) Separate Third Stage from payload.

6. If payload has additional stage, now could be the time to ignite it.

1. Take Fairings off.

2. Attach Payload on TR-18A Decoupler.

3. Set Symmetry to 6, And turn on Angle Snap.

4. Attach Fairing Panels on Radial Decouplers on Edges of interior. Make Sure staging is correct before launching. Done!

Look'in good but:

1. The engine cluse could be replaced by a single advanced engine.

2. More pics of the second stage plz?

Thanks for the feedback!

I redid the album photos (adding clearer second stage images) , as well as revising the engine configuration. The center KS-25 was replaced by the KR-2L engine, as well as removing the fuel lines leading to the center tank from the boosters, which now last much longer.
