How might Multi-Player work?

I know I know, you're going to say 'have a look at DMP' but I'm actually interested to hear from the community.

How do you see Multi-Player KSP working?

  • Is there Multiple KSC's on Kerbin?
  • How do you interact with other players?
  • Versus or Coop?
  • What's the objective/endgame?

I wonder if once it becomes stock, if it won't become the focus of KSP, and the single player get forgotten about/neglected.

Personally I don't play many MP games, mainly because usually they're populated by a zillion 12 year olds with monumental attitudes.

I sincerely hope it doesn't degenerate into "OMGLOL I just launched a SRB into yur VAB N00b!!!!!1!!"

What's your thoughts?

Moved to Development Discussion.

As with many multiplayer sandbox games, I highly suspect how the game ends up being played will depend entirely on the people you play with.

So will it be public or private servers, or a mix of both?

DMP style multiplayer wouldn't be bad, but I would like to see multiple space centers especially for competitive mode, I can imagine, what people would do on BDArmory :) Ever since 0.25 I was waiting for destructible buildings outside the KSC.

I really like the fact that KSP is non-violent, so I think if i did join a server, it would be one sans-weapons. I'm just wondering what you could do to make that interesting?

How does Timewarp work? Do you just have to do everything realtime? That's a real mystery to me.

Without timewarp, or worse, with GM controlled timewarp, you will need to be at you computer at exactly right times ... for many years (Jool mission for example)

Independent time warp turns MP to SP with very warped reality.

Not mentioning all the stuff like someone tries to ruin your buildings and ships, because of wrong flag on them.

KSP is just not made for MP. And it's not losing anything from that fact.

That doesn't sound appealing at all, if that's how it works.

Hopefully this example should give you an idea of how subspaces work in DMP. It's quite seamless.

As for people trolling, well it's not like this doesn't happen on Minecraft. You limit access to your private server, or have admins that can ban troublemakers from any public ones.

Never used the DMP and I'm not sure, what happens when it's 200 craft, not 2 and they are 10 years apart.

Just watch this video series. You don't have to watch them all, by the first few you will have the idea.

(if you do get interested in the series, you can watch each episode from all 3 perspectives on each persons channel)

That's quite interesting the way it works with the sync button. I could see that getting quite convoluted if there were a few people on the server.

I'm interested to see how they will implement this into the stock game in a way that can be interesting and intuitive.

Yeah I know trolls are everywhere too. I just don't like the idea of them in KSP. :D

Watching your video Alshain, I can see that it could be quite fun as a co-op game, provided everyone is playing nice and it's working properly :)
