Rocket Falling Apart on Launchpad

Recommended Posts

I made a rocket where giant does not describe its size. The second stage is bigger than most eve rockets I have seen. The thrust is somewhere around i dont know, 6 giganewtons, yes giganewtons with a TWR of 1.10. (Mods, PP). Its one giant SRB at the botton.

But it just phantomly tears apart on the launchpad. I would put this as a bug, but its probably too ridicolusly stupid for the game to comprehend. What happens is the rocket has the top fall off, the clamps literally sink into the launchpad (yes, sink into the pad) despite me editing the cfg file to have a crazy break force and torque. Could it be KJR just screwing with me or what? Thanks.

Probably just too massive. Try adding moar struts. that should help, but IDK if it will help enough haha. I want to see a pic of this gigantic monstrosity!

Idk, it looks like a kraken attack from being too big and i dont know the cause.

Yeah, that's KJR.

Get rid of it for a moment and see what happens. Launch clamps in Stock are impossible to move without bugs.

And, ah, how did that fit in the VAB? Even just the editor?

Build a normal tall rocket, attach clamps to top, flip it 180 degrees, push it as high as possible into the roof. You'd be surprised how high you can actually make it go. Yeah, once physics kicked in, the clamps just couldn't support the torque and pinged out the ground. I did not go to space that day.

Yea, I also want to see a closer screenshot.

Did you implement a self-destruct mode? That would be spectacular. On my biggest rocket, I set up a self-destruct on "Abort", but triggering a bunch of sepatrons to fire into several key root parts, causing them to explode and the rocket to disintegrate (lighting up the second stage engines simultaneously as well helps to make the fireball even more spectacular). I'd love to see your rocket go boom!
