  1. Not in my case and probably not in OP case. I had old laptop with 2GB of RAM and was disappointed when crashes became more frequent after upgrading to 4GB (completely stock with 1/4 texture quality). Solution? Increasing virtual memory with bcdedit. Not a single RAM related crash since then. I`m using Win7.
  2. For Vista and later this option is available via bcdedit. All my memory prolems were solved by using this in my Win7.
