  1. Long story short: Mate of mine is a real, actual, bonafide Druid and has been working on a theory about ancient navigational techniques for years now. There's a big experiment when the lunar eclipse is on and he's looking for people all over the world to....well basically, look up when the moon turns red and mark what they see on a star chart using very, very low tech techniques like ancient man may have. Details here: http://www.stonehenge-druids.org/science.html
  2. I'm running an i7-6700 overclocked to 4.6Ghz and a 980Ti......and I haven't seen it blink yet running KSP with everything turned up to max. Or with Arma3 with, again, everything turned up to max.
  3. I hear ya. I'm not a fan of monthly subscriptions either.....which is why I used to pay yearly ;-). I say used to cos now I'm part of the event teams and, as such, receive a comped account in return for some of my time running events. I'm guessing you've never made use of the War Thunder premium accounts? (which seem exorbitantly priced btw) - - - Updated - - - Oh and I forgot to mention......Aces High is free to download and you get 2 whole weeks to try it out with no restrictions whatsoever, including online multiplayer and all the events, before you'd need to subscribe. They don't even ask for a credit card number until it's time to subscribe or give it up.
  4. Just to say......anyone who likes War Thunder needs to check out 'Aces High' (www.hitechcreations.com) as well. It's not as pretty as War Thunder, or at least not yet (there's a major update in open beta now) but it is a LOT more realistic. In fact I'm going to say that War Thunder is an arcade game while Aces High is a simulator. 96 different aircraft modelled, 23 different vehicles, destroyers, cruisers, carriers and even a PT boat. Game worlds are around 512 miles x 512 miles with arena capacities in the hundreds and the game can handle massive furballs of dozens of planes without anything silly like a 32 plane visible limit like you see in some other games. There's a dedicated events team that create and host numerous historical and non-historical events. There was once an event held with the USAAF academy class of 2004 being the Luftwaffe and 300 of us civilian Aces High pilots playing the Allies. You can even do little things like form a squadron and upload your own nose art which will be shown on every squadron members aircraft in flight. Oh and unlike lots of other games you don't have to pay extra to access the more advanced craft.
  5. It does bug me when software is published with a weird version number. I'm a software developer myself (bespoke corporate) and my development version numbers start at 0.01 rather than 0.1. But, as Harvester said: There isn’t a pre-established convention in the software industry on how to increment version numbers, so each studio tends to do it in their own way. Most seem to do it the wrong way , but that's just my opinion.
  6. It's too cluttered. Really don't need an icon telling me which way south, etc, is.....those of us that can navigate know it's bearing 180. Cub scouts know south is bearing 180. My mates 3 year old son knows south is bearing 180. Surely, everyone knows which way south is?

Deskjetser, you sir, sound like you really know what you're talking about. I urge you to try Aces High, there's a two week free trial with no credit card sign up required....

Lets stick to MMO WW2 combat flight sims. Everything else is personal preference....oh wait, that discounts IL2 as well cos it's not MMO.

    WarThunder?

Yeah I don't like modern jet sims, too much like playstation combat. I prefer WW2 seat of the pants stuff. Hence why I suggest Aces High instead I've been playing it for 15 years. We're up to version 2.32 now and the game is about as recognisable at KSP 0.1 would be.... That's WT. In Aces High you have access to everything immediately, since the learning curve is so steep you'll have your backside handed to you by A6Ms while flying a P51D for at least the first 3 months anyway.... Well.....actually, the prevailing opinion by most with actual experience of flight in the real world is that all Russian planes in IL2 are over modelled, probably because it's a Russian developer. And you don't get 500 players in the same arena with IL2. Not even close in fact. It's also not a persistent world and there's no long term record keeping. I can look up my Aces High stats from 1999 if I wanted to. There's also an official 'Events Team' for Aces High who design and coordinate regular massive events. Once upon a time, back in around 2004 I think, we had an event with the civilian pilots of Aces High versus the USAF Academy pilots class. 4 saturdays in a row, 250 a side......we kicked their arses too, even if they did manage to sink one of our carriers. Aw heck, shall I just put the costume on and get the pom poms out?

WT is for kids who can't handle a learning curve and want instant gratification. The only good thing about WT is the graphics aren't bad at all. However, if you fly KSP then a) you can certainly handle a steep learning curve and you probably want realism, not arcade easy mode. Therefore.....try Aces High (www.hitechcreations.com) and when you get there look me up (Swoop - usually on 9pm ish British time).
  11. Can I ask a silly question? Why don't you edit the parts file of a NERVA and change the thrust / ISP to whatever you want it to be? If you want a NERVA to be 330kN then make it 330kN. Just be aware that any changes you make will be overwritten the next time you update KSP.
  12. The science % you get when transmitting isn't due to 'data loss', its to do with the data itself. If your astronaut goes EVA and produces a report from it, that report is verbal / written and, therefore, can be transmitted back to the KSC with no data loss. If your astronaut goes and collects a mun rock.....that mun rock can't be transmitted back to KSC cos we haven't invented long range transporters yet. Sure you can write a description of it and take a picture to transmit back.....which is why that data is only worth 20%. It's not data loss due to transmission quality, it's data loss due to the scientific quality of the data.
  13. So, if I've got some goo to look at and I go look at it at an alt of 500k......I'll generate a report. Now I could transmit that report home but I'll only get 40% of the science points so I'm going to store it instead and wait til recovery. If.....when I land somewhere, I reset the goo container and look again......and store that report as well.......do both reports get submitted when I recover the flight in the space centre or just the most recent one?
  14. A thought: It would be very handy if those little messages that flash past when you 'do science' would also be added to the F3 flight log to review later.
