Mechjeb = Override Safe Distance & Override Start Distance in Docking Autopilot

What is the difference between these 2 options?

I'm assuming start distance is how far away it starts the docking maneuver from the craft and safe distance is how close it will move past the craft once the maneuver is started. For instance to start the docking it may need to move 10m away and is on the wrong side of the ship to dock, if the safe distance is set to 2m it will move around to the other side of the craft at a 2m distance.
