What camera should I gets

Recommended Posts

Probably a compact superzoom unless you want to use a really big, costly lens. On the other hand the IQ from a DSLR will obviously be better. It's all a trade off on how much you want to spend and what you think is worth carrying around.

The latest Nikon crop sensor series have a high resolution while keeping pretty good quality, so maybe one of them. The D7100 also has a secondary crop mode to get you in further and still with 16mp and good quality. I would probably not go for full frame, you really need a massive lens to get the focal length I'd think you'd need for aircraft watching.

As a practicing photographer, I can tell you that choosing the right camera system is based off of the following criteria:

  1. Money

  2. Money

  3. How much money you can spend

After you decide that, then I may be able to give you suggestions.

For aircraft spotting, you are going to need the longest zoom you can get. If possible, go for a DSLR and add a zoom. I wouldn't suggest a compact because they are usually slower than a DSLR and the image quality is not as good, especially for superzooms.

A lot depends on your budget. How much do you want to spend?
