  1. On some of the contracts it will say take a kerbal on "sub-orbital" flight or and "escape trajectory". I am unsure as what is meant in game for these. I figured a sub orbital flight would be any flight under orbit but that doesn't seem to be the case. Anyone know for sure what needs to be done on those?
  2. Do you think it is possible to generate too much hype? I mean what are going to do with it all once all is said and done. Too much hype to just put it all in a closet somewhere.
  3. Only 10 pages left . At this point we will pass up 1.0 and go straight to 1.1
  4. I think I will undertake finding the first Kraken in 1.0
  5. This train feels like it needs some more speed. Allow me to hop on and see if it helps
  6. I for one am psyched that they are adding something to do other than just land. Now we can land and gather. I personally like to build infrastructure in space and this give the stations some more flexibility.
  7. Hey everyone this is my first ship share on here and hope it is fun. This is an SSTO that can carry 6 kerbals and 2 moon buggys. It has vertical rockets for landing on the Muns' surface in a horizontal fashion. How I get it to space, Full throttle off the runway and pitch 45* until about 10k meters. Then climb as slow as you can to about 25k meters when it runs out of air (going about 1400 m/s) then engage the rockets and cut the turbojets. Climb at 45* again until your peak is at about 80k meters. Glide up and circularize your orbit. You will need to refuel before going to the mun but should be the only refueling needed for a round trip. If you guys have any advice on making it better please let me know. The entire goal of the craft was the be able to get to the moon and back without shedding a single part. Making it very cheap for campaign mode. You can download a copy here. https://www.dropbox.com/s/9tn8aobrcsbnvb2/SSTO%20%20Xander%20MK3.craft?dl=0 Action Groups: "1" - Toggles the Turbojets "2" - toggles the Aerospikes "3" - Toggles the vertical Rockomax 24-77's
  8. Yea once the hype threads get so long I kinda quit reading them. Why would I take offense to your comment? Also this isn't hype, this is confirmed.
  9. So I saw this on the steam forum and naturally came here to fin out more. http://steamcommunity.com/app/220200/discussions/0/618458030655228908/ https://twitter.com/ZedsTed/status/583745578913390592 ------ ""Wrapping up the QA phase on @KerbalSpaceP 1.0. Now to get ready to start Experimentals!"" ---- I didn't any other posts on it so I figured I would start one in case anyone missed it
  10. For that link you provided. Is that a planet generator? Looks pretty cool. Does it allow you to make another star?
  11. I've been looking through the mod database for a bit but haven't seen one. I'm looking for a mod that adds either more planets or another star with planets. I thought I saw Scott Manley have an entire solar system way way out in the distance in one of his videos. I don't really need the extra parts to get there. (well I may but I wanna try to get there using stock first).
  12. "In his stead" is used correctly here. 1stead noun \ˈsted\ Definition of STEAD 1 obsolete : locality, place 2 : advantage â€â€used chiefly in the phrase to stand one in good stead It's not you, it's me: the oldest line in the book isn't actually that old. » 3 : the office, place, or function ordinarily occupied or carried out by someone or something else <acted in his brother's stead> As for complaints? I would say that I cannot stand how every ship I ever send to Jool never reports back.
  13. I do have an old O-scope and multimeters out the wazzu. I can test it in my home just fine but I am looking for a compact alternative to test elsewhere. As for how much I am willing to spend? That is a hard question. I would say upwards of $100. I would say 1 day worth of sampling data would be a good minimum. Obviously longer would be better but one day should sallow for a one time download each day of data.
  14. Hey guys I was wondering if anyone knew of a good reliable watt meter to test display the power of any particular appliance. The list of what I need it to do is: Display the Volts and Amps of AC power usage (Watts being optional of course with the previous two) Must work with US power outlets Needs to be able to read power going both ways. (power going in and out or positive and negative) I need to be able to record the data somehow. Either with an SD card or through USB or something that allows me to see the power usage over time. I've been looking all over ebay and just coming up with a bunch of junk. I don't have a bunch of cash so cost is definitely a factor.
  15. I am looking to play around in and try out the source film maker. I figured it would be fun to work on some kerbal shorts. Are there any models that I could start using? I understand it is essentially another engine and it may not be worth dealing with exporting/converting/importing and if this is the case I'll try something else. Anyone else use the source film maker?
  16. Are you kidding me? We are getting mineable (if that is really a word) asteroids. This is such an awesome addition to the space exploration aspect. The big parts that are really missing altogether that would help both the plane side and rocket side is basic mechanical parts. Things like a rotor, hinge and piston. I think those three parts would make such a huge difference in the game.
  17. I've got about 2000 hours in thus far. I haven't found myself interacting with the online community too much except to try out a challenge every now and then. There hasn't been too much of a need to really. The game runs with out crashing often so no real need for any tech support, or bug reports. I find myself playing other games until I get the itch to send another craft up. I know I'll log some hours in when the minable resources makes its' way in. One of my favorite parts is actually building and testing the ships and find myself running out of ideas using only fuel tanks, engines, or wheels. I really think there needs to be a few other additions like hinges, pistons, and rotors. Just those few parts could make such a difference in how much can be built. I know there is that infernal robotics mod but I get tired of losing all my ships when the mod gets messed up for whatever reason. All in all it is inevitable for games that release in their alpha stages or in some sort of pre-release to lose interest by the time they release. This often causes games ot never leave the alpha stages. This game is good enough to become a cult hit and develop a loyal following. I really do not think it is going to "die out" anytime soon. This is one of those games that you end up loading on your machine a decade from now just to see if it was as good as you remember. Myself I am looking forward tyo putting at least another 1k hours in once 1.0 releases. On a side note I am sure most would agree, A multiplayer function would really boost the community communication and the longevity of the overall game life.
  18. @Ted Thanks Ted for coming in and sharing the basic roadmap for the game with us. A basic layout of how the game is scoped for completion is all I really wanted to hear. It is also more than good to hear that it won't get stuck in a continuous development state. As I mentioned previously the readme that is getting released with the updates say that the game is still in alpha stages so if we are throwing that particular model out there should be something in it's place to refer to here in the forums. Hopefully get rid of the whole "it's in alpha" reply and generate some more useful feedback. Perhaps "scope realization" Not sure but it isn't necessarily a bad model by any means.
  19. Like I said before my issue isn't really with how long it is taken. It could take another three years and that just means more parts and features. My issue is that in the past three years lots and lots of people have participated in the early release and for the past 3 years no sort of game plan or schedule has been produced. This causes issues with modding as I would love to start making mods for this game but don't want the next update around the corner to break it. Not only that they keep the release secret so I can't even try to plan around it. The content of the update release is important so you can make sure you don't implement something that they are already including. And then the save breaks. It is pretty unsatisfying to have save games break especially if you were in the middle of a long flight or something. This is something I figured would happen being in this state of alpha release but I would at least like to see light at the end of a tunnel where the game is considered finished and save breaking updates are pretty much non-existent.
  20. I think the convo may have moved off track a bit. Like I said before I love this game and the concept it presents. It has absorbed more time than most other games. I do feel though that sqaud need to be a bit more open with the players that are spending their money on their game long before it was finished. When something is purchased that is still under development then it is more than reasonable to expect that the product will stay in development until it is done. Sure they have a messed up legal right to just opt out but I don't think they would do that. I was stating that it isn't deplorable or should even be frowned upon to have access to dates of which these things will be done. Like I said even if they said it was done now I would be happy with it in it current state. That means no more bad save games and more stable mods. If they want to continue developing I'm cool with that as that means more features. But to be stuck in some sort of alpha limbo with no explanation of any actual plans to get out is by no means a good thing.
  21. Accountability of a game is exactly that. Once the game is done it is in that state that it will be judged as a final product. For it's flaws and highlights. Once it is done some gamers will be upset that features that wanted wasn't included. It is at this point the developers themselves will have their talent judged by other developers and publishers. Reviewers will tear into the game for it's flaws or will hail it for it's triumphs. That isn't the only issue though. Say they have a piece of code in there that crashes everyone's systems or even just a good chunk of players systems. They would be responsible for fixing this lest they suffer an enormous backlash. This can be avoided though by simply saying that this isn't done yet and then they can fix it at their leisure rther than having it forced to the front of production. Mods have become a massive pain as well as it seems like every other update breaks a bunch of them. Alot of the time I spent playing went up in smoke once I downloaded the new update for the game. It is because of crap that this that the developers put in there themselves that make me think this game simply won't leave alpha stages so it can always be told that the game isn't finished yet when an issue arises.
  22. @sal_vager Here in the readme that was released with the last update =================================================================================================== Disclaimer: THIS SOFTWARE IS CONSIDERED TO BE IN ALPHA STATE, AND MAY CONTAIN BUGS. SQUAD AND SQUAD STAFF TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE OR LOSS OF DATA THAT MAY OCCUR AS A DIRECT OR INDIRECT RESULT OF USING THIS SOFTWARE, AND CANNOT GUARANTEE ANY DEGREE OF PERFORMANCE OR STABILITY, OR EVEN THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL BE USABLE AT ALL. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. (not that any of the above should happen anyway, but it's good to be on the safe side) ==================================================================================================== That is where the devs call it alpha themselves. If you continue to read that paragraph you see the accountability issues I'm talking about?
  23. @sal_vager lol just repeating what the devs say isn't getting anywhere. and you seem to be missing the point. You pay a tire center to put new tires on your car. Keep in mind you have already handed them the money. They tell you that you can drive your car around while they are getting it done but if it leaks then you will just have to wait for them to finish. Ok so you just wait for them to finish. 3 years later they still aren't finished, your tires still leak and you are not allowed to inquire about when it will actually get done. If you do ask when it would be finished you get scolded. Do you not see anything fishy here at all? Perhaps they did get it done and they are just telling you that it isn't done in case anything goes wrong they can just say "it wasn't finished yet"
  24. Even if they took the game as it stands right now with 23.5 and called it complete and done. I would be happy with that. That would also mean that their accountability goes up as they are making a statement that the game is done and any they release later is fixing issues or adding content rather than just working on the game.
  25. @sal_vager Lol I'll look in a bit for where it is called alp[ha but really at this point you are simply arguing semantics. "Early access", "feature complete", "alpha stage" all infer that the software is not complete. You can call it what you will.
