Thanks for the answers. I tried using the space center to select and control the kerbal, be he was not "flyable." I had tried using the map view (M button) to select him from there, but he was not controllable through that interface either. I will try the [] keys...

So far I've been able to get the rescue craft with an empty command module to the floating, orbiting kerbal. I don't know how to get the little guy to do anything except ricochet off the command module. I seem to be missing something... Help?
