  1. I only know because it had me confused at one time too.
  2. Check Mechjeb's Ascent Guidance tab. You may not be using it, but it could have the Terminal Velocity button selected (I don't remember the exact name). This will cause throttling down while in the atmosphere, but not in space. Edit: "Limit to terminal velocity" it's called. Untick it.
  3. Ah! But it's still a pole. I don't think the biomes are split into north and south poles. It's just poles. That's probably why you got zero. You already did science at the poles biome. Duna biome list.
  4. I currently have 51 mods installed. No big deal, really. I'm sure there are people with far more. The one you are looking for is Kerbal Engineer Redux (KER). Some mods will only work on older versions of KSP. Most mods are up to date. They always say what version they are compatible with. KER is compatible with 1.0.4.
  5. How far are you trying to send that satellite? An LV-909 may be a better choice in any case.
  6. I see lots of people asking "How do I build a..." Sub-orbital craft for one Kerbal? Sub-orbital craft for one Kerbal and a Tourist? Kerbin orbiter? Mun flyby craft? Mun orbiter craft? These are not the only ways to build a... These are not the best ways to build a... These are some suggestions on how you could build a... I hope they help you.
  7. In my career mode tutorial for beginners (Part 3) I used this craft to get to Mun. It has one more tech tree box than you do, the fuel ducts. It's only an orbiter, not a lander, but you can get hundreds of science points for the right orbit.
  8. This is my Duna lander. It goes to Duna and back for a Kerbin landing, but with just one Kerbal. It shouldn't need much souping up to get it to deliver three.
  9. This is a modified Mun lander, which is capable of getting back into Duna orbit and back to Kerbin.
  10. Oh. Right. I assumed Career Mode. You get contracts to rescue Kerbals. It's a cheap way to get new astronauts. I haven't played science mode since career mode came out.
  11. The name of the object is pretty meaningless. The mass of it is the most important thing you want to know about it. You need to attach enough parachutes to it, so that you can land it safely. As FancyMouse says, you want to use the Claw part to attach your parachutes to the object. You also need a rocket to get it into space, but that should be straight forward for you by this stage. Here is a picture of my latest retrieval operation, just about to splashdown.
  12. New applicants are too expensive. Rescue some scientists from orbit. Of course, you can't pick which ones are scientists before you rescue them, but there has to be some sort of challenge.
  13. I used a similar setup, but with a docking port on the bottom, then with KAS/KIS I had an engineer fit a docking port to the other craft, and dropped down onto that. Worked pretty well.
  14. These are from an older version of KSP (0.90 I think). The first is a simple, three engined one, pushing a Duna lander stage on top of one of its two senior docking ports: The other is two bigger, 12 engined beasts, pushing a manned asteroid catcher top stage:
  15. You need to send a ship with a spare seat. Either send an empty capsule with a probe core for control, or attach another empty capsule below the one with your pilot in it (I assume you are using a Mk1, single crew capsule). Then, as the others said, EVA your rescuee over to the empty capsule.
  16. Over the past couple of weeks I posted Part 1 and Part 2 of this tutorial. This is Part 3 Phew! Part 3 was a marathon. It's LONG, but there is a big science payoff in the end. And it is the end. I think these tutorials should be enough information to get even the rawest recruit to the point of being fairly confident to carry on with the tougher contracts in Career Mode. As I said in Part 1: Ok, so I read many posts from beginners who: 1. Have no idea how to start in Career Mode. 2. Are crawling around the KSC, scrabbling for science points in its different biomes. 3. Are trying to build aircraft to fly somewhere on Kerbin to do a visual report or something. I spent a couple of hours putting together, what I hope is, a useful guide to some of these people on how to go about the early stages of Career Mode. It is not the right way to go about it. There is no right way in KSP. That is the beauty of the game. The way is your way. If you want to scrabble around the KSC, good for you. If you like building aeroplanes, fabulous. This is just some suggestions on how you might want to go if those options don't appeal. I hope this is of use to someone. Constructive criticism welcomed.

  18. No worries. If in doubt turn it off and back on again.
  19. Have you tried restarting the game? That has helped me with these sorts of weird problems.
  20. They tend to rotate around. If you Decline some of the ones you have no intention of doing, you may get the same (or similar) one come around again.
  21. Yep, as selfish_meme says, you need to upgrade the Mission Control building. If you Right-Click on the building you will get a box appear. In the box there is an upgrade button. Hover your mouse over the button and it will show you the result of an upgrade, which in your case will say something like "Mission planning". If you pay the money and upgrade the building you will be able to plan missions with the blue line, and manoeuvre nodes.
