Could you please upload a video or a saved ship? I can't reproduce it.

You may want to make the decoupler a lil wider, some things like sas mosules stick out in weird ways.
True, I will look into it.
instead of just dropping along the jettisoned part, it 'explodes' into 3 smaller bits which fall away, just before the jettisoning part (allowing the rocket engine to show up still attached to the lower part of the rocket) ?
Sounds difficult, but i think its possible. I will try it.

I have no idea... Does anybody else get this problem?

Dosent work for me :/
More information please.

On a side note, I tried out the SDK, but to no avail. It doesn't want to open any folders, and when I try to open a mesh it says it can't find the directory.
Copy the contents of the SDK folder to your KSP folder and PartLab should work.
I have the mesh, and a copy named node_colliderMaybe the collision mesh is too complex. Try a simple cylinder as node_collider.

Quick question: Did you change any of the values for the smaller parts?
Yep, I changed everything. Less thrust, less fuel inside the tank, less mass.

Hey,
did you create a collision mesh? If not, for testing purposes: Create a second object, name it node_collider and assign a material to it.
You should try loading your part in PartLab, its part of the SDK: http://www.kerbalspaceprogram.com/files/KSP_SDK_v01.zip
(OT: 3x 'part' in one sentence ??? )
