  1. What if a person has a bad sight and can't distinguish dots?

The contract window doesn't even have criteria marks as fulfilled when each of them is done, ok, it has for bigger parts, but the orbit parameters should have the same indication.

P.S. And it's a common sense, if a user of your software doing something wrong, you have to tell him about that, so he or she can concentrate on fun things.

I hate when a game/program is blamed for a faulty user... NO.. ABSOLUTELY NO... the worst thing in 95% of games now is how they hold your bloody hand and walk you around the whole time (*cough* CoD *cough*). The best part of this game was the learning curve! I spent a LOT of time online reading about the science of orbiting and the physics behind the game and in the end I LEARNED SOMETHING (a lot actually...) If it had just "told me what I was doing wrong, and how to fix it" I would have gotten bored a long time ago.

There is a tutorial and scenario section in the game now, go play those and read up on the wiki! Don't blame the game because it doesn't hold your hand. If you accidentally put a satellite in the wrong direction, TRY AGAIN! It's what makes the game fun!

  2. So I was coming back from a successful mun trip and upon separating my last stage (so only the Pod and Heat shield were left) I nearly had a heart attack when I saw that I had no parachutes!

1000 hrs of gameplay, countless successful missions and I forgot parachutes on my final stage!?!? NO WAY! A glance to the staging on the left shows my three parachutes are in fact there.. so now I'm confused.

So I stage anyway and get ready for my impending doom. But lo and behold, at 500m, my craft slows to 7m/s!!

So I zoom in to look at the craft and try to figure out what happened and got this beautiful site!!

    That landing though!

  3. I am really loving it! I can make things go fast! (And I mean fast!)

Those two pictures were literally taken a split second apart. I managed to scare Jeb!

On the serious side, it makes flying a whole lot more fun, and rocket launches are easier too. Squad did a great job!

The screens I posted earlier were the same, I always had my finger on the screenshot button trying to hold off as long as possible! Sometimes I'd click it RIGHT as it blew up, or to early and see the m/s go higher.. Everything turns so quickly from happy Jeb to terrified Jeb!

  4. I personally think the new aero model is really very good. It's not perfect yet, I think it could still use some dialing in, but that's one of the beauties of the model that it can be tweaked with just a few settings.

Yeah, and a bit like the old model, I like that if you just tweak your own way of creating you can make the model work wonders!

DID IT! Broke Mach Four near sea level! 1535 m/s @ 300m!

Sorry for all the posts.. Pretty exciting for me though!

  5. @moogoob: I honestly LOVE when my craft blows up from too much speed or when you over adjust at a ridiculously high speed! I've been tweaking it all night to try and get a couple extra m/s and it's so much fun. It may not be "real life" but it is a HUGE jump from the old model, and it made the game infinitely more fun! And it was already amazing!

@ Jaeleth: I did a couple runs in the higher atmosphere and these designs went SIGNIFICANTLY faster, so I appreciate that tip; but somehow it almost feels like cheating for me now! I'm committed to going as fast as possible as close to sea level as possible!

@ Commander Jeb: KSP (no mods) doesn't really show the decimal places.. so I'll just aim for 1362 m/s then :sticktongue:

I've also found aerobrakes one of the most satisfying parts. Extending the brakes all the way out and just watching the speed dive as I come in for a landing (sometimes) feels very star-wars-esque; or at least very futuristic! (I know we have them now, it just feels like something out of a sci-fi movie... being able to "stop" in mid air)

  6. So close... (For those who don't know Mach 4 = 1361 m/s)

    euS8mHJ.jpg

Blew up right after taking this screen... This is literally just an intake inline with a remote guidance unit and four engines... with some airbrakes for steering and tiny, tiny wings!

Here's a view from the hangar (design is based loosely on the Boeing x-51, at least in the minimalist sense):

  7. I've been playing around in 1.0x and I am finally able to make aircraft! I never really got into FAR so this is the first I've experienced of the plane side of KSP; and I love it!

Currently going for the fastest design I can manage! Here's a couple screens:

    Gh9X6ys.jpg

    7smd9li.jpg

It's going pretty well, :P VERY new to the plane stuff, so i'm cheating without fuel ATM, as it's much easier to just worry about stability and CoL and CoM right now.

Passed Mach Three so that's exciting! Next stop: Mach Four!! Only 200 m/s short... and a NON exploding craft! Good news though: Valentina survived that horrific highspeed combustion event.

How's everyone else enjoying the new model? How does it compare to FAR? Also, has anyone learned how NOT to do that last picture? I can't really throw a heat shield on, as it would destroy the aero.. but I can't go much faster without blowing up every time!

Also: as an aside... does it annoy anyone else that f12 now turns on the Aero Forces Overlay AND takes Steam screenshots.. can I change the Steam key for screen shots? As I would also love using the AFO without taking a screenshot every time.

  8. Was just working on my space station and had my shuttle floating nearby. Using KAS I had it attached via a winch to hold it in place!

I was out working (attaching struts to make the station stable) on EVA and hit the dark side of the earth which makes it to hard to see and work. So I went back into the ship and started to fast forward until we came around the other side of the earth.

As I was fast forwarding I noticed the shuttle was moving towards the ship (obvious when your moving fast forward) so I went back to normal time and KAS glitched causing the winch to think it was in "docked" mode... which, for those of you not using KAS, means the station and shuttle are now controlled simultaneously. So I suddenly couldn't RCS backward (because the station was thrusting in the same direction..) and the shuttle slammed into the back of my station blowing off the last docking port and the last module attached and destroying two of the four parachutes on my shuttle...

Didn't quicksave during any of that... and now my station can't expand any more (since it has no more docking ports..) and I don't know if my shuttle can land safely (Columbia...)so I may have to send a rescue team up to bring them back.

So frustrating!! Just a quick press of F5 before fast forwarding and I would still be working away! No issues!

Blew up everything from the 5-way hub out.. leaving just the control module and solar array intact. Should be able to undock below the Control module and start back from there..

Similar experiences? What are your worst disasters?

  9. I don't think you can give specific kerbals different looks in the stock game, Bill, Bob, and Jeb's orange suits may be hardcoded.

However, there's a mod that let's you what you're looking for, I believe, TextureReplacer. (you just need to install texture packs seperate): http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/107471-0-90-TextureReplacer-2-1-2-new-thread-the-old-one-is-broken

As for where the files are located, I don't know, sorry.

Brilliant! Been messing around with this for the last hour or so and it works perfectly! Thanks so much!

  10. I'm going to put this under gameplay, as it has to do with the stock file structure.

Anyone know where the models are for the base game Kerbals? ie. Jebediah..

Also does the game store individual models for each Kerbal?

Basically I want to edit the model and make a unique Kerbal to be the head of my space program but I don't know much about the ksp file structure. Found all the parts and such but can't seem to find the models for the Kerbals themselves.

I do know how to edit the name of a kerbal.. so there must be at least some form of "uniqueness" to each kerbal.

  11. I will admit I don't know much about the subject. But what would be involved with porting it now to a better engine? Would it involve a complete rework (ie. starting from day one..) or would models, textures, logic, etc. all pan over pretty easily and it would just be a matter of reworking certain bits of code to make it work?

In other words do other engines offer similar coding (C# I believe) but offer more features?

  12. My problem usually isn't running out of fuel, it's running out of electricity... Even when I DO remember to put on solar panels, I seem to have a knack for positioning my ship so the panels get no juice XD

Though this one time during a Munar mission I accidentally staged while doing a burn, so I had to wrestle my Command Pod into wrestling the tank and engine to get me out of the Mun's SOI and then had to get out and push with the EVA backpack to land safely... It took soooooo long.

Your dedication to the mission is admirable.. I'm usually more of a "revert to launch" type.:sticktongue: But I suppose if the mission is long enough, I guess you do what you have to!

    ;)

I know, i know, just install the games you actively play on the SSD, but hey, i play lots of games :D

(And my SSD only has about 20Gb left)

You have a 1TB SSD? Geeze... I have a hard time justifying 500++ $$ for 1tb of storage. you can get a standard 1tb HDD for like $80... and $500 was being generous; some 1tb SSDs are like 1000$+. How much did you pay for yours? Or am I confused about your post and that isn't actually an SSD drive you're showing?

  14. I usually am able to get a coffee and drink most of it in the time it takes my KSP to load, that might be why I'm mainly playing other games (Who am I kidding? I'm just going here)

    I shall look into this.

Also, thanks for the tip! Gimme a name so that I can smother them with rep!!

Not sure he's the original but this was the forum I found it under: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/96675-25-slow-loading-time-really-slow

Post number 7 from "Claw" was what tipped me off!

  15. What the hell is Hamachi?

It's a virtual private network; from my (very limited) understanding, it enables you to have a private connection with someone (or their computer, rather..) over a public connection. I used to use it for multiplayer gaming. It was like using a LAN connection with a friend who's 100 miles away.

WHY did you think it's normal?

It's because it was like this from day one! I always thought it was terrible and annoying; but I never experienced anything else! Seems really stupid now looking back.

Woke up this morning and it's still working too! Felt like it was to good to be true last night
