  1. I was hoping we could keep that joke going... oh well. Last night I remembered how important electrostatic charge efficiency is when flying tourists in LKO, using a Stayputnik robo pod, and not having unlocked the solar panel branch of the science tree. Had just enough power left to get them into the very top of the atmosphere (ie 69,950m). Aerobraked enough to bring them back down to the surface after about 20 orbits, so I thought I'd tick off a few more contracts on the Mun in the meantime. Coming back to my now descending orbital tourer, it turns out that parachute deployment also requires electrostatic charge. Luckily for the tourists, I don't think they felt anything when they flew into the side of a mountain at 300m/s.
  2. Nothing yet - but after a long hiatus, last night I started a new career from scratch. A couple flybys and orbits of the Mun to check my design for launching an orbital Munar space station. Tonight is the night I relearn how to dock.
  3. Last night was my first revisit to KSP in a while. After failing twice to recover Jeb from his crashed Munar lander, I moved house and got out of orbit with KSP. Started playing a few classics in the interim: SimCity 4, Cosmonautica, and then got completed addicted to Mount and Blade: Warband. After defeating Calradia, and the excitement with New Horizons in real life, my head is back in the stars. Started a new career campaign last night with lots of new energy and focus on what I want to accomplish!

Recap of weekend activities: - Launched first orbital station of Kerbin - Launched 5 satellites into Kerbal orbit - Made first fly-by of the Mun - Made first orbit of the Mun - Rescued Jeb from the orbital station, as docking without RCS tech was more difficult than I originally anticipated - Jeb landed on the Mun. Next up? Unmanned rescue mission to Jeb, who happens to be stuck on the Mun. Turns out he was a little light on fuel!

  6. This game is out of this world. It's everything I wanted in Buzz Aldrin's Space Race and Microsoft Flight Simulator that wasn't quite perfected (let alone combined).
  7. Cheers for the warm welcome folks. Definitely some impressive construction happening from the veterans on YouTube. Completed my first orbital rescue this morning before work. It's ridiculous that I woke up early just to do that, but I got so close last night before bed that I just needed to do it. Starting to consider a career in the space industry...
  8. Wow - downloaded this on Saturday night and played pretty much 20 hours straight. Not even close to being tired of it! This is everything I've ever wanted Buzz Aldrin's Space Race to be, plus Microsoft Space Simulator and Cosmonautica, rolled into one. I've always respected the 'lunatics' who put us out in space during the 60s, but even more so now. Even putting something into orbit, let alone a human being, is crazy when you think of it. Just before heading off to sleep last night, I noticed something in the ship constructor screen that was a real game changer - the symmetry and angular snap buttons. I'm going through all of my previous designs to fine tune them now.
