You can also use the control deviation for continues manipulation of the P-fragment. The more deviation, the more aggressive the controller. The less, well... But you have to take care of self-amplifying effect. And a minimum count of the proportional fragment in case the deviation goes to zero. I had satisfying results when I used it several times to optimize Pressure controllers which ruled Speed controlled Pumps. Hope that's worth an experiment. -
