Seperating Struts?

Recommended Posts

I'm confused. If the struts connect two seperate stages they will auto-disconnect upon staging. Also, if you undock a craft that is strutted to the main "mothership," the struts will auto-disconnect again.

Unless it's for purely aesthetic reasons, but even then the struts disappear once they're disconnected. You can't actually see struts that aren't connected to anything.

So...I guess I don't really follow why you would need to disengage the struts independently...

I use Extraplanetary Launchpads which allows an Engineer to scrap parts. I have a space station project with an engineer on board whose sorry task is to saw off all the struts on the hab modules I fly up to the station. Works like a charm though :) If you need to get the strut off during staging you could either use the suggested strut to decoupler.

If the only other connection between the two parts is either a docking port, or a separator, then the struts automatically sever when the main connection is broken :)

If there's a reason you want to break the struts without separating the main parts (aesthetics?), you'll need another solution, obviously.
