Dunan Space Program

So, extraplanetary launchpads exists. It lets you launch from places other than Kerbin. But Kerbin is always "home". Mission difficulty is based on departing from Kerbin. You can't recover a vessel unless it's on Kerbin. I want to start the game with a different "home" body than Kerbin, and try out a career starting from, for instance, Duna. Imagine having to figure out landings with only SRB's and mk16 parachutes! It'd make for a different and, I think, wildly entertaining experience.

It doesn't have to be fancy. I think all (..."all"...) you'd need to make it work would be something that: (a) lets you recover vessels on Duna and (B) makes all the missions aware that you're starting on Duna now - therefore adjust the relative planetary mission frequencies and perhaps the rewards as well. Bonus points for adjusting science multipliers appropriately.

Of course, you'd also need to use extraplanetary launchpads to launch from Duna, and probably hyperedit to initially get the pad to Duna, but otherwise, bam, Dunan Space Program. Double bonus points for letting you set any (solid) planetary body as "home".

Who's with me?

This is as far as I am aware flat-out impossible.

However, what you CAN do is change Kerbin to look like Duna, have Duna's atmosphere, be orbited by Ike instead of Mun/Minmus, and orbit where Duna orbits. Duna meanwhile could be moved to Kerbin's orbit and perhaps similarly heavily modified. Do note that that might very well come with a whole series of minor issues, like the order of planets being out of whack when jumping from one to the next in map view; the science progression being out of whack, due to giant science returns on Ike which has modifiers suitable for the normally elevated difficulty of reaching it from Kerbin; reduced performance of solar panels; and so on and so forth.

It's also not exactly a trivial mod to make.

I wouldn't mind trying to start ksp from a different planet. I debated doing something like this, but just with extraplanetary launchpads and editing the ship to a new save.

but the thought is as far as I got and I'm no good with modding

No, it's possible. Kopernicus can move the KSC, there's even an example for it. You can Also change the grass color on the KSC with Kopernicus, so you can easily make it red.

And you can set the "home world" tag in Kopernicus on for duna and off for kerbin.
