[ANSWERED] Functional parts, hidden from VAB/SPH menus? Possible?

Recommended Posts

So here's an odd question (I suppose).

Is it possible to make parts that are functional in-game, but not selectable in the VAB/SPH? Particularly in existing saves? (which negates just placing them in an expensive tech-tree node, which also isn't a solution for sandbox games).

The reason I'm asking, is that I'm making a save-breaking update for Fuel Tanks Plus. It would be fantastic if it would be possible to make the old part IDs still function for existing vessels (with the old stats and everything), but have only the new part IDs be selectable in the menus.

Specifically, the mod is taking all fuel tanks of the same sizes, and consolidating them into single parts that will use a tweakable to select the color, instead of having them in the menus as separate parts.

Short of having a plugin that can translate the part ID's and remap then to equivalent parts, I'm not sure there's a way to get around this.

Squad used something similar for their asteroids (also known as PotatoRoids), which count as a part but arent selectable in the VAB or SPH.

Be tolerant of my spelling mistakes and stupidity, its eleven o'clock and my brian is tired.

That's a good point, I didn't think to look at those. Here are the relevant settings from the PotatoRoid:

TechRequired = Unresearcheable
entryCost = 0
cost = 0
category = none
subcategory = 0
