Define a word

This game is all about word knowledge. Someone will post a word and you have to define it correctly. Looking up words you do not know is encouraged, but you are not allowed to post the answer if you do. Only post definitions you already know. The definitions have to be correct, not imaginary. After defining the previous word correctly, you must post a new word to be defined. Try to post words that are a challenge while being reasonable.

- Looking up unknown words is encouraged, but keep it to yourself
- Only post definitions you did not look up
- It must be real words
- It must be real definitions
- Words have to be properly defined. No 'has something to do with' or 'it is a thing that does a thing' type replies.
- You must post a new word when posting a definition

The first word is: chlorophyll.

My answer is: Isn`t that what makes the green plants green?

Yes, it is. No, that is not a definition :P This is:

Quote

Chlorophyll: molecule that gives plants their green colour. It allows plants to transform carbon dioxide and water into sugars/carbohydrates, using light as an energy source. This is called photosynthesis.

The new word still is humectant.

Sigh

Humectants (or moisturizers) are important cosmetic ingredients allowing to prevent loss of moisture thereby retaining the skin's natural moisture. Some compounds also have the ability to actively attract moisture.

there. How that?

If you are going to cheat, at least put some effort into not getting caught :D

Defenestrate is the new word.

You know what? I'm just going to tell you. It means to throw someone or something out a window.

You have a hard time with this game, do you not? :D

How about we just come up with our own wacky definitions while trying to be accurate? This game seems very "un" fun currently.

Most games in these forums provide little to no challenge and are about quick and trivial replies. This one was intended to be a little more testing. What you propose seems at odds with that and, frankly, it seems we also have enough of that.

However, if there are any suggestions to make this one more fun, while retaining the challenge and/or educational value, they are more than welcome :) The whole point is to have fun and sharpen the mind at the same time.

It's hard to make an educational game fun, especially if you tie the player's hand. How about looking up the definition but making it funny and accurate?
