Export "craft in flight" to .craft?

I've assembled quite a few crafts - rovers, small satellites etc - using KIS, on remote sites, from parts manufactured at distant bases. Some of them are pretty neat too, and I'd like to create copies of them, be it launched through VAB, or deployed through Extraplanetary Launchpads circumventing the manual assembly process.

Is there some trick/method to make these into .craft files for reuse? Some mod or a technique of copying and modifying the Persistent file contents to make these into .craft?
