Reroot part in flight

Hi everybody. Does anybody know of a mod that enables the player to change the root part in flight?

I've run into a problem where USI Konstruction cannot merge two sections, because the construction port have become root part when I decoupled my vessel. I know I can send up a new section (rather expensive!) and that is what I've done so far. But changing the root part in flight would be far nicer solution.

Only solution I know is to try attaching/detaching parts via KIS - it'll have to regenerate the part tree, and sometimes that changes the root.

KIS could be a way to go, thanks. I'll keep that one as plan B

EDIT:

I've been looking at the vessel class. Could it be so simple as to just change the public field rootPart???

Thanks for this, ill try when home tonight

The docking ports becoming root is why I cant shunt trains anymore as the IVA view is glued to the root parts axis

Uncouple a train and recouple then suddenly you can see through the locomotives hood as the train bounces.. Clipping though parts because where the docking port is.

Is now what the iva sticks too

I wish squad would fix it but..its more of a train thing thus not stock

Editing the craft cfg file is a crude way.but it might just be a solution :) one we can expand on later

I just run into this problem and did this:

- right click the desired command module
- select "control from here"
- immediately after that pick "rename vehicle" in same menu
- change type of vehicle to something different
- esc and go to tracking station

After you return to vehicle, it should focus on center of mass and control from that new command module.
