I deorbite an Asteroid for a Contract, but it won't pay off.

I have a contract to capture a class A asteroid and put it in a stable orbit. I captured the asteroid and put in in a nice circular orbit around Kerbin. Apparently the asteroid wasn't "untouched" because the contract is not paying off. I never touched the thing before I attached a grapple to it. Has anybody else run into this situation?

You may need to put it in a certain orbit.  This will be outlined in the tracking station as a grey (I think) line.

Worst case, if the contract is done but doesn't want to complete, you can use the "cheat" menu.

There is a chance you misread the fine print in the contract and actually missed some requirement. Check it out, if you are sure you did everything the contract asked for write it off as a glitch and solve it with the cheat debug menu as other suggest.
