Getting a gauge to have some slop?

Recommended Posts

Not sure where / how to ask this one. My google-fu is failing me today

Can anyone point me to a reference or example of a gauge pointer simulating inertia? I want to programmatically add this element to a display. Kind of like how the roll/yaw/pitch rate indicators move.
I'm trying to avoid having the indicator 'snap' to the current reading, so I'm looking for some reference code to 'soften' the output of some of a display instruments (eg compass) so the pointer has to speed up / slow down / have bit of inertia.
Depending on the settings, I want a rapid change of direction / attitude have the pointer bounce past the desired point and oscillate back and forth a bit before settling.
