How to Manually UNLOCK a Tech Tree Node?

I need to unlock the "Field Science" node on the Tech Tree. It's located way too far down the tree and I need to use the rover to collect science around the KSC. Is there a file I can edit to unlock this node?

On another note, is there some resource to teach me how to create a custom tech tree? I know about Module Manager, Community Tech Tree, and Yonge Tech Tree, but there's really no documentation on HOW to use these to create a tech tree.
