how far can you go into space and back?

Recommended Posts

the moon is very close to being implanted in the game and most of us will be shooting for it when it comes out so lets have some practice.

the challenge i ask is simple how far can you go into space and then land back at kerbin

Rules

you may only use SIDR, c7, default , wobbly rockets or kw parts

pics or it didn\'t happen

and don\'t change the parts files.

good luck.

i will be doing it myself but i\'m not home and i\'m on my laptop so i will be doing it later.

I set up a 100,000m - 300,000,000m (1 light second) orbit once -- about 3/4 the distance from the Earth to the Moon. It takes a long time, but was a true, real orbit. Granted, at that range, you\'re using little puffs from your RCS thrusters to modify your maximum altitude by millions of meters at a time!

This is easy. If you reach escape (with a bit of fuel for coming back) you could go an infinite distance.

Yeah but you have to come back for this challenge. Hitting escape velocity without using an orbit to slingshot is easy but returning is harder as you still have to have enough fuel to burn off the escape velocity. Also at extreme distances it becomes harder to actually hit Kerbin on the return run. If you had enough fuel I guess you could just modify your trajectory a bit.

I want someone to get to the sun\'s distance and back with just vanilla and C7 parts
