Science question

To get credit for a SC-9001 Science Jr and a Mystery Goo project do I need to bring these units back to Kerbin, or can I leave them on the mun to lighten my return load?

Thanks

To gain credit for the science, you have to do one of two things: Transmit the data back to Kerbin (you don't get as much Science! this way) OR recover the experiment.

There are a couple ways to recover the experiment: Bring the container back, in tact, or perform an EVA to extract the experiment and place it in the Capsule. Watch

of my Let's Plays you can see how I retrieved experiments and moved them to the capsule with an EVA. (Skip to about the 20minute mark).

The advantage of bringing the data back is you get full credit for the science, and all you need to bring back safe is the capsule, which if you have decouplers unlocked (which I'm assuming you do) you can just put a decoupler directly under your capsule and done. (But don't forget the parachute)

You can also store only one kind of each experiment done under the same conditions in your capsule. So for example, you can't take two high orbit Mystery Goo samples into your pod. But you could take a high orbit Mystery Goo and another Mystery Goo from any other location with you.

If you try to take two of the same samples with you, it says something to the effect that you can't bring it in the capsule. I've seen people confused by this. You are still bringing one of the samples, you just can't bring two.

(I hope at least some of that explanation made sense... :P)

You actually CAN have two high orbit mystery goo reports, I think, you just can't have them for the SAME high orbit (so Duna and Ike high orbits should be fine).

Yeah, that's more accurate. I meant this but didn't really say it that way. Sometimes it's hard to make examples without being overly specific.

Can't store more than one of the same kind of science experiment done under the same conditions.
