Is there something I'm missing here? are those two escort ships really that tough? or are they just a distraction so that to deter me from mainly hitting the "Cyrodil"? If they are it's working.

Yep, dirty little secret: Hoeru and California are Kenji-Class Dreks with large wing-panels over them to prevent phasing of missiles. Apparently it didn't stop it from breaking in half but it did't vaporize them either. They're not small, but they're not made to fight 160 ton Battleships.

The SK-CRV-I (and actually all AKS capitals) are intended to engage well outside of LOS, possibly even interplanetary with specialized long range Tripedo-H missiles. The ability to get up close and maneuver is just an afterthought really. That said, provided i do have to fight up close and personal, id much rather be in a AKS ship then in a drek or one of the super massive vessels many players here have that have very sluggish acceleration and turning capability.

http://imgur.com/a/V8DKg

This was a little test run vs a drek i did, not only does my armor let me take some hits from popper-Hs, but the weapons i have just vaporize dreks. There was some luck as i have had tests where the 1st shot cut the SK-CRV-I in two, but not once has it been completely distroyed with a single shot, either the rear survives with usually engines and 2 torpedoes left, or the front survives with ibeams and 2 torpedoes left. The drek as you can see does survive, but if we go with logic, that is a dead ship as it cant move or do anything but be used to rearm someone else as the entire rear was obliterated.

Compared to the kenji drek, the SK-CRV-I fairly balanced actually. It has less armor and is way more vulnurable to being tickled to death by fighters (engines are basically exposed and only wing covered, and weapons are completely exposed). That said, it is (from my experiences) a bit harder to wipe out with heavier weapons, due to both a lack of clipping and weakspots per say, and very small size making it hard to get your shots to connect. if you fire at low enough velocity to be accurate and guarantee a hit where you want, teh armor will usually stop the round before it hist anything critical, whereas if you fire at very high velocity to guarantee damage, you either phase through the entire craft, or miss altogether since its quite hard to hit a target of this size at 500+ m/s. Now there are angles where the odds of splitting it in half increase exponentially, but only shots from the front or rear at an angle stand a good chance of being particularly deadly, firing from teh side (it was originally intended to broadside targets), even the best werapons need a perfect phasing hit to connect with teh central girder, onlky then can you split it. If you think about it, the drek has better all around armor against most weapons, so it gets advantage there, but i have the edge in maneuverability and acceleration letting me get into a more favorable position and to some degree evade unguided weapons at anything but point blank range.

Off to the drawing board I go, to upgrade and innovate.

EDIT: There's something fishy going on with your battleships, Arvin. I hit one of the missiles straight in the fuel tank and it didn't break at all.

My ship, the frigate that is yet to be named. It was designed after one of Zekes raves about battle tactics where he said small, disposable ships with lots of firepower work well. This ship is about 50tons fully fueled and armed. Ignore the Dv readout in the picture, Kerbal Engineer has no idea what it is talking about. This ship is currently armed with homemade armaments, 16 I beams and 6 of my 1.25m missiles, which take inspiration from tirepedos, but are more simplistic, using an srb and only consisting of 6 parts each; but these have only been tested against my own ships(doesn't work too well head on, but who know how well they work from the side) so I have no idea how effective the actually are. In testing this ship has been able to shrug off I beams, but can be destroyed by larger missiles.

Yeah that would be great! Just a few more things I should mention, 1 toggles the nukes, 2 toggles the ion engines, and the first salvo of I beams consistently spins out of control, not sure why, just be in very close if you use them (<100m). The later salvos are fine I've found.

That SSTO looks liek something out of startrek (a little long but still good looking), and both your capitals look good. Do the SSTO have internal weapons bay? Im working on a very powerful weapons that can fit inside a fully empty short MK2 bomb bay and is intended for use in my HK-101B variant (having a popper-H equivalent inside a fighter with 6K dV is fun).

I can replace the passenger bay with a cargo bay and stick weapons in it, as well as hanging them externally. I made the SSTO simply by ripping the side off the Fr-104/Co-102 (same side pieces) and replacing the nukes with rapiers.

So I went out and put together a bunch of missile concepts I've heard about (tirepedoes, I-beams in the front) and I got a round that can tear a big hole in a BASIL in one shot. Here's a squid carrying 4 or them, it's 81 tons. Each round is 10 tons. I'll most likely put these in the Hoeru and Drek 30 as heavier grade shipkillers, while keeping the Squid as a lighter destroyer for heavier ship combat.

Here's what it looks like AFTER it takes a hit with its own missile:

Although its nice to see new weapons, dont you think 10 tons per missile is a little OVERKILL?!

many i ask, what is the part count?

It's probably because of those radial engines clipped inside those Tirepedoes, those engines have funny collision surfaces. If you are talking about the fuel tanks inside the hull however I'm surprised as you are. I don't know how that happens.
Well that was frustrating, I had to play a low game and just take out the Tirepedoes on the BASIL since I can't really kill it.... Going to need to build some new missiles for sure this time.https://www./?km39t1wvxmi2klshttp://i.imgur.com/rO29cag.png
Now I'm worried. Instead of me just solving that exposed engine problem, I might have to remake my ships if heavier weapons are to come into the field.

For now I'm a bit worried because the ship reactive armor and hull is designed to stop "Punching" missiles like the Popper or Tripedo (Tirepedoes) not "Piercing" missiles such as those with pointy I-beams in front. Basically I made a "sponge" hull to dissipate any projectile energy as it passes through the hull, I did not however specifically designed it to stop weapons that can "stab" a ship. It's just pure luck and passive default design of the plates that made my ship as it is. I just kept my mouth shut about it, turns out you figured it out. I merely adapted my ship depending on what the common and dominant design enemy weapons are. Now I have to redesign my ship if that's the case, not only to stop blunt missiles but also precision missiles as well.I'm pretty confident I can make a new hull, but if there's a new weapon type out there that comes out that is unique and we haven't seen before (Like the MAC) I'm pretty worried. For now the arms race continues.

Okay, I just went back to the old Gentlement's Naval Battle Thread and read some of our comments.... god I sounded like an egotistical d*ck back then. Probably still do to an extent. Just want to say sorry 'bout that to Spartwo, Daemon, Briansun, Andrew, War Eagle, and Shadowlane. I'll watch myself, I didn't realize how bad it was untill now.

nah, I still have my own arnaments that are quite powerful (see Bol-class missile and the newly named Isochron missiles).

I'm also too busy emptying Kraken arnaments on Emu ships

ummm, Emu?

i have now discotined both the dreadnought and the carrier my new ship the light cruiser has been tested and is ready for combat with your ship it will carry a full load of my light support fighters The light cruiser by emu dynamics is a powerful fast but lightly armoured capital ships it carries 8 heavy missles and 8 docking ports for carrier fighters with the standard sized docking port

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ui6knkx5lu...ier.craft?dl=0 the main ship

https://www.dropbox.com/s/xl7j4n6oam...ter.craft?dl=0 the support fighters (8 of these light support fighter) if you use these you will have to quickly switch the missiles around as they are facing the wrong way

https://www.dropbox.com/s/mrhmwmd0tj...Emu.craft?dl=0 the support fighters (4 of these hummingbirds)

Target practice, should it be abolished?

After a mission in SAP's Target Practice initiative including Bill Kerman, Bob Kerman and Jeb Kerman left horrible consequences, Sir Shark was asked if he was going to abolish the Target Practice Initiative, to which he replied "aw hell naw"

Losses from the mission included:

Death of Jebediah 'Jeb' Kerman, who was flying an Apophis-Class.

Serious injuries to Bob Kerman, who was flying an Arrow-Class. Damaged to the oxygen systems on-board meant he had almost suffocated by the time he was rescued.

Bill Kerman was unharmed, but is in a court trial as he was in the Apophis-Class that destroyed Jeb's Apophis-Class, with Jeb inside it.

Alpha Kerman remains silent on the situation, apart from his single remark "awesome."

2 things i recently discovered pertaining to fuel tanks and armor protection in general:

The new LF tanks that everyone here uses after 1.0 hit are WORSE then the old FLT-400 tank. For some reason, the 20 impact tolerance decreases the odds of being destroyed (the fuel tank, not the ship), and then makes fuel tanks that are knocked off act as shrapnel and tear apart ship internals. The FLT-400 (and other 6m/s impact parts) just plain and simply explode the second something nasty whacks them. yes you loose fuel easier then with teh new tanks, but id rather loose fuel then have my ship obliterated and or shot in two.

Two, part clipping is just NOT A GOOD IDEA! This one im directing at zekes in particular, not that your recent dreks are bad, but looking inside both teh kenji and the smaller one, they have too much fuel tank clipping. I removed the fuel tansk and swapped them for non clipped FLT-400s that were swapped to pure LF storage and both vessels became that much harder to 1 shot vaporize. Yes it can and still will die to a solid hit, but way less of that instant rear part vaporized when hit by a Tripedo-M or popper knockoff. If you are willing to give up some range, dont clip a single fuel tank with another fuel tank, and if you must clip to fit them, be absolutely sure they are nowhere near or worse clipped into the root girder that is your spine. Ohh, and swap the mk1 LF tanks for FLT-400s (i have a mod that lets me swap fuel ratios and even remove all of one type of fuel from tank, but you ca alwasy edit the OXY to 0 and the LF to 400 in the .craft file without mods, myself i do not call this cheating, but if you do then i guess ull have to sacrifice some armor and use the MK1 LF tanks). For extending range external fuel tanks are your friend, in combat, id rather have very vulnurable fuel tanks then be 1 shotted reliably.
