Keeping Steam from auto-updating?

I have KSP in Steam and it forced the 0.25 update on me by itself. (a minor inconvenience)

But I'm starting a huge mission, and I really don't want it force the new beta on me until I'm done. (and I wrap up this game)

Anyone know how to keep Steam from doing that?

Go to where the steam installation is located and just do a copy of the folder and place it somewhere else, the steam copy of the game will work without needing steam to be running, so you'll have two copies of the game, one that will get auto updated and another hat won't update until you want it too, both the saves will be seperate and you won't need to worry about them conflicting.

In the Steam Library window, right click on KSP and select 'Properties'.

The in the 'Updates' tab, select 'Only update this game when I launch it' in the 'Automatic Updates' section.

This will prevent the game being updated in the background.

IIRC, though, you won't be able to launch the game through Steam after the update unless you update it first.

You will be able to launch the game directly from the KSP.exe, however.

Alternatively, you could copy the entire game directory to a separate location, and launch that through the exe.

This separate location will not be updated (or even known about) by Steam, and you can keep it in parallel with the updated Steam version.

Yeah, this just prevents Steam from updating games until you actually want to play them, so it won't help in this case.

The only (the easiest, anyway - there may be others) way to do this would be to copy the Kerbal Space Program folder from Steamapps/Common. It's DRM free so you can run KSP.exe independently of Steam in any location, albeit without the steam overlay, time tracking etc.

You can prevent Steam from updating your game, but you can't prevent it from updating itself, and it really does that. It often crashes my KSP.
