  2. Keep in mind that you can Rclick and decrease the thrust output on the SRBs. They may not be configurable in flight but I use them extensively to get the initial boost off the launch pad.
  3. Hey All, Does anyone else see extreme GPU usage on the R&D screen or is it just me? My GPU always pegs to 99% usage when I go to spend that sweet sweet science.
  4. Most of your KSP needs will be wrapped up in processor speed unless you have mods that make it pretty. the core of the game (the physics engine) is all run on a single thread on your processor. You would want a laptop with a very fast processor to give you the greatest bang for your buck. VI
  5. I have no problem burning LV-Ns on non-Kerbin surfaces. The ambient radiation on any moon is likely 10x the possibility of any impact from the LV-N engines. Even a place like Laythe which is so close to a gas giant that the rads from it would be insane. Also, even Mars does not have a significant magnetic field to protect it from solar radiation so an LV-N would be nil impact there as well. VI
  6. You don't have to do that eva science while falling. As long as you are hanging on to the ladder of your capsule you can get the, "Above environ" EVA report. VI

  9. Ah, biggest fail.. so many to choose from! I guess it would have to be the Mun landing that had no lights, no fuel lines, and only one landing leg. I proved my name with this particular mission. Or perhaps the space station with the docking ports on backwards? Take your pick
  10. Wasn't today but it was a mission I was particularly proud of. I returned a Moho flyby mission back to kerbin. I entered Kerbin's SOI with less than 300DV fuel left and about 40 units of monoprop; not near enough to stop me from careening away from kerbin at high velocity. The only option was to do a very deep aerocapture which made me nervous due to deadly re-entry. On the second try (yay quicksave) I dipped deeply into Kerbin's atmo which burned off every rcs port and monoprop tank (but not the science!) and left me with enough DV to stabilize the orbit. Needless to say it was a tense moment for everyone at mission control and shortly after the successful aerocapture Jeb was sent up to retrieve the science from the mission. Was tricky to get the science as the vessel was in a bizarre elliptical polar orbit.
  11. I answered yes. The reason I feel that it is important is that seeing the numbers gives you a little bit of understanding of what you are actually doing. For example, if you run a mission and did not have enough fuel to get back its easier to figure out how much more fuel you will need rather than, "well, I guess I will add another three fuel tanks!" Knowing helps you plan better and makes the failures a LOT more educational. I read the pcgamer article and I wholeheartedly disagree with them on this. Without any indication of DV its more like filling in a crossword puzzle without the key information. You still have the guess work of figuring out how much DV you need to get places and all of the trial and error that goes with it. I feel as though no gameplay is lost with the addition of said tool.   12. I think it really depends on what you want to do. If you are looking for more things to do in space, i would suggest scanSAT and Kethane. If you are looking to get into space more better, i would suggest kerbal engineer and enhanced navball. You might also consider adding additional challenges too! TAC life support is great fun as it gives you additional things to be concerned about when doing manned missions. ScanSAT is great because it gives you an additional unmanned option for science and a good reason to send stuff interplanetary that are easy to get in space. The Kethane mod is a great way to add challenge and give a good reason to have space stations set up in various places.
  13. I must Consider my Sins.. I have used Infinite fuel on purist saves. I use F5/F9 without thought or consideration of consequence I do not know the meaning of the word "reusable" I use Kerbal Alarm Clock to calculate transfer windows for me I have edited a save file to add electric charge upon forgetting to extend panels There, all my sins have been confessed. May God have mercy on my darkened soul..
  14. Since you are using Kethane I would recommend that route. Build a lander with the 8k kethane storage tank, a heavy refinery, and two nuclear engines. Drop it down to minmus mine kethane to fuel the boat, then liftoff and go back to kerbin. Going to Minmus is almost the same DV as it is to get to Mun. You want the refinery WITH the boat so you can fuel it up after you land so you aren't lifting off and using your payload to refuel your boat. The craft is typically a rather TALL behemoth but it is efficient and with that 8K tank you can get a good amt of fuel off the surface. VI
  15. I started in .19 so I guess by standards I am a bit spoiled. Good reentry effects, navi nodes, etc. I love ksp though
