Ah, thanks. I see where you're coming from. I did in fact use whack-a-kerbal to try and destroy part of my ship that I forgot to put a decoupler on. I feel a bit stupid now.

I was recently flying past Gilly on a failed attempt to gain science when I saw this: http://i.imgur.com/BhgmIUX.png I managed to position the window of my pod to face the object that looked a bit like a fuel tank. I would really like some insight as to what this might be. P.S I am new, so if I posted this thread in the wrong place, let me know.
