Really? Huh... I've never gotten air breathing engines to work with tanks containing oxidizer. Maybe there wasn't a proper path for fuel; it's been a while since I tried.

Jet engines won't run on the fuel in that tank. You need the jet engine specific fuel tank-- I'm at work and can't look up the exact name, but it's the narrow, white tank with an orange logo on one side.

You might need to add some saddle tanks. The legs and big tank are left behind, but I can't imagine there being enough fuel left in the two engine mounted tanks for a return journey. You could put a parachute over each engine, though. That might help save fuel during the Duna landing. Let me know how things go. I still haven't managed to get past the Mun.
