About me
Bottle Rocketeer
-
One of the most frequent mistakes I make is forgetting to switch to target before a maneuver node. I suspect this happens to newbies a lot as well. It would also be nice to have an indication, when building the rocket, of how much torque/RCS power is available to the rocket at each stage vs. the max mass and average mass.

The devs must've given youtubers a polished dev build with which to advertise the game, because the release build looks nothing like the videos or ads up to release. Private division needs to be accused for false advertising.

All Early Access games have bugs. Also, I'm sure that the version we are playing is newer than the one shown in the YouTube videos. I'm not having significant problems and my system is relatively modest compared to the recommended system. This game is still being developed and the feedback the developers get from Early Access will result in a significantly better product. -
Sky Cranes and Rovers
rben13 replied to rben13's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Suggestions & Development Discussion
The ability to do sky cranes might also give us the ability to do things like fire and forget landings of boosters. I'd love it if I could somehow set it up so my boosters could land back at KSC after boosting a big load to orbit. Currently I haven't gotten to 5m engines, so I'm using a cluster of 6 $18,000 engines for my heavy booster and would really love to get them back. -
I would really love the ability to create and automate sky cranes. It would be great to be able to deliver a probe to a moon or planet using the sky crane concept. I can kinda sorta do it using KSP when I am piloting, but it would be a lot easier if we had a way to automate the sequence of getting close enough using a combo of parachutes and rockets and then gently lowering the rover to the surface. It would also be really cool to be able to send small rovers, easily carried in bays.

Rover Science - The Rover Science Storage Box
rben13 replied to rben13's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Something very similar, but as another poster said, as a stock part. -
It seems to me that the purpose of a rover is to be able to visit multiple biomes on a celestial body and bring back science from those locations. To that end, I suggest that you add a new part: The RovCo Rover Science Storage Box Model III - adapted from the finest recycled fishing tackle boxes. With it you can store not one, not two, but THREE of each science data type. No more running back to the lander with every pebble you pick up! Storage of graviton readings, temperatures and even seismic readouts are a snap! The RSSB III is the answer to your mobile data storage needs! Expanded versions of the RSSB are under development. The RSSB Model V is expected to store five of each type of reading and the capacious Model X will store 10, more than you'll ever likely use! --- A smaller RCS storage device, similar to the ROUND-8 Toroidal Fuel Tank, would be nice for small rovers and micro sats. Some similarly small control jets would be welcome as well, especially ones designed to help keep your rover firmly on the planet/moon it's exploring. In case anyone from MechJeb reads this: It would also be nice if MechJeb were to introduce a more compact version of their marvelous tool that can easily be tucked away in space-limited rover and micro-sat designs. It would also be nice to add a way to transfer science from one ship to another when the two are docked. Having to do a spacewalk every time gets old after a while. Thanks!

Science is not suposed to be grindy!
rben13 replied to MC.STEEL's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I have some, perhaps obvious, suggestions for science: Give science credit for: - First space walk - First docking - Establishing comm sat in Kermin Stationary Orbit - Planetary Flyby - Asteroid Flyby - Crashing probe into planets, asteroids and moons for research - Orbiting other celestial bodies - Kerbol Observer Satellites to observe space weather - LandSats that might reveal resources/science - Soft Landings on celestial objects - First Kerbal orbiting a body - First EVA on planet/moon/asteroid/alien ship - Discovery of anomalies - First Probe to exit Kerbol system and still communicate with KSC - First Rover on X - First Base on X - Core Samples - First use of Booster - First use of engine type It's not hard to come up with other examples. Science rewards should come from making sensible investigations and advances towards greater capabilities. I hope some of what I suggested is useful. Great game, already, btw.
